Ahda Hazariman Zainul studied architecture at UiTM. Spent years running a clothing label. Moved to Yemen to study Arabic. Came back when the war broke out. And somewhere in all of that, Tiang Seri Studio was born.

Encik Ahda specialises in handcrafted architectural model making. Specifically traditional Malaysian architecture. The process is painstaking. A structure is identified, researched, visited if possible. Locals are interviewed. Measurements taken. Drawings produced. Only then does the cutting begin.

For Encik Ahda, this is not just craft. It is preservation. Traditional architecture is slowly disappearing. Modern materials are cheaper. Old village buildings are being abandoned. Tiang Seri Studio is his way of keeping these structures alive. In a form people can hold, display, and pass on.

When asked what he hopes people take away from his pieces, his answer was simple. A deeper appreciation for what we have. And perhaps a memory or two. But his bigger hope goes beyond that. He hopes that one day, traditional Malaysian design elements find their way into mainstream development. Into MRT stations, bridges, neighbourhoods. Not as a replacement for modern design, but alongside it.
