"Healed by Grace on Mount Murud"

In 2021, I injured my right arm while playing badminton. At first, I thought it was just a minor strain and did not pay much attention to it. However, the pain gradually worsened. Eventually, it became so severe that even my sleep was affected. Often, the slightest movement at night would wake me up in pain. Even simple actions like changing clothes became difficult and painful. I endured this discomfort for more than nine months until a brother encouraged me to see a doctor.

After undergoing an MRI scan, the doctor confirmed that there was a small tear in my tendon, measuring about 4.77 mm. Later, I received a steroid injection, and the pain was relieved. My arm returned to normal. However, that relief lasted for only about a year.

In 2023, the pain returned. During those months, I often mentioned my discomfort to my wife and told her that after returning from the Mount Murud Prayer Conference in July, I would go for another injection.

Yet deep in my heart, I offered a very simple and quiet prayer to God:

“God, I have heard that many people have experienced Your miracles on Mount Murud, and my arm is also in pain. If You are willing to heal me, please heal me, for I know that You are almighty. But I do not want to tell anyone about my condition, because You are all-knowing; nor do I want to ask anyone to pray for me, because all glory belongs to You alone. Even if You do not heal me, I am still willing to accept it.”

That was the silent prayer I offered to the Lord.

To be honest, with the pain in my shoulder at that time, I really did not know how I was going to climb Mount Murud. I had heard many people describe how difficult the journey was, and I knew it would take several hours of climbing to reach the campsite. I still remember that when I first began the ascent, my right arm was still hurting. I was concerned whether my shoulder could endure the journey, but I chose to press on in faith and entrust everything to God.

Then, during the climb, something unexpected happened — the pain gradually began to lessen. By the time I reached the church campsite, the pain had completely disappeared. Even to this day, I cannot say exactly when the healing took place.

At first, I wondered whether it was simply psychological. I even thought that perhaps the cold mountain air had temporarily numbed the pain, and that it might return after I got back to Kuching. But the next day, as I continued climbing to the summit with the group, there was still no pain at all in my shoulder.

After I returned to Kuching, the pain never came back. Even so, I remained cautious. I thought perhaps it might return after a few days, so I did not tell anyone except my wife. I only said to her, “I am not completely sure yet, but I may really have experienced a miracle. The pain in my shoulder is gone.”

So I waited a few more months, just to be certain. Praise the Lord, the pain never returned. Later, on 31 March 2024, during the Easter Sunday service, I finally shared this testimony with the brothers and sisters in my church.

Looking back now, I deeply thank God. He not only healed my arm, but through this experience He also reminded me once again that He sees what people cannot see, knows what people cannot know, and is able to do far more than we ask or imagine. Many times, before we even speak, He already knows; before we explain, He already understands. He is the all-knowing Lord, full of compassion and power.

This experience also helped me realise more deeply that God’s work is often not done according to human ways, nor does it always happen in the way we expect. But when He does act, we know that it is His grace and His doing. Healing is not only about physical recovery; it is also a reminder deep in our hearts that our God is real, that He is still living, and that He still cares for His people.

Whether our needs are known to others or not, whether our weaknesses are spoken of or kept hidden, the Lord sees and the Lord knows. If He is willing, He Himself will accomplish it. And even if He chooses not to respond according to our expectations, He is still the good, faithful, and almighty Lord.

May all glory, praise, and thanksgiving belong to Him alone. Amen.

《在毛律山蒙恩得医治》
(Healed by Grace on Mount Murud)

2021年,我在一次打羽毛球时弄伤了右手。起初,我以为只是一般的拉伤,并没有太在意,没想到疼痛却逐渐加剧。后来,情况严重到连夜晚睡觉都受到影响,常常稍微一动就会痛醒。就连换衣服这样简单的动作,也变得困难而疼痛。在这样的不适中,我忍耐了九个多月,直到有一位弟兄鼓励我去看医生。

经过 MRI(磁力共振)检查后,医生证实我的肌腱有一道小小的撕裂,长度约为 4.77 毫米。后来我接受了类固醇注射,疼痛得以缓解,手臂也恢复正常。然而,这样的缓解只维持了大约一年。

到了 2023 年,疼痛再次复发。那几个月里,我常常向太太提起自己的不适,也告诉她,等到七月参加完毛律山祷告大会(Mt Murud Prayer Conference)回来后,我就要再去打一针。

可是,在我心灵深处,我却向神献上了一个很简单、也很安静的祷告:

“神啊,我听过许多人在毛律山经历祢的神迹奇事,我这只手臂也正承受疼痛。如果祢愿意医治我,求祢医治,因为我知道祢是全能的。但我不想告诉任何人我的情况,因为祢是全知的;我也不想请任何人为我祷告,因为一切荣耀都单单属于祢。即使祢不医治我,我也愿意接受。”

这是我默默向主献上的祷告。

坦白说,以我当时肩膀疼痛的情况,我实在不知道自己要如何攀登毛律山。我听过许多人形容那段路程十分艰难,也知道要攀爬好几个小时才能抵达营地。我仍然记得,开始攀登时,我的右手还是疼痛的。我心里也有担忧,不知道自己的肩膀能不能承受这段路程,但我选择凭着信心继续前行,把一切交托给神。

就在攀登的过程中,一件意想不到的事发生了——疼痛竟然开始慢慢减轻。等我抵达教会营地时,疼痛已经完全消失了。直到今天,我仍然说不出医治究竟是在什么时候发生的。

起初,我还怀疑这会不会只是心理作用。我甚至想,也许是山上的冷空气暂时麻痹了疼痛,等回到古晋以后可能又会复发。可是,第二天我随着大伙继续攀登到山顶时,肩膀仍然一点都不痛。

后来回到古晋之后,疼痛也没有再回来。即便如此,我还是很谨慎。我心想,也许过几天又会复发,所以除了太太以外,我没有告诉任何人。我只对她说:“我还不敢完全确定,但我可能真的经历了一个神迹,我肩膀的疼痛不见了。”

于是,我又等了几个月,想确认这是否是真的。感谢赞美主,疼痛始终没有再回来。后来,我终于在 2024 年 3 月 31 日复活节主日崇拜中,将这个见证与教会弟兄姐妹分享。

如今回头看,我深深感谢神。祂不仅医治了我的手臂,也藉着这件事再次提醒我:祂看见人所看不见的,知道人所不知道的,也能成就远超过我们所求所想的事。很多时候,我们未曾开口,祂已经知道;我们尚未说明,祂早已明白。祂是全知的主,也是满有怜悯与能力的神。

这次经历也让我更深体会到,神的工作往往不是按照人的方法,也不一定照着我们所期待的方式发生;但当祂出手时,我们便知道,那是祂自己的恩典与作为。医治不只是身体上的恢复,更是心灵里再次被提醒:我们的神是真实的,祂仍然活着,祂也仍然眷顾属祂的人。

无论我们的需要是否被人知道,无论我们的软弱是否向人诉说,主都看见,主都知道。祂若愿意,祂必亲自成就;即使祂选择不照我们的期待回应,祂仍然是良善、信实、全能的主。

愿一切荣耀、颂赞与感谢,都单单归给祂。阿们。

《不是因为教会大,而是因为教会同心合一》 by 张鸿恩牧师

“三一堂是一间大教会吗?不然怎能动员这么多会友来参加短宣?”这是我在 Ulu Julau 短宣期间,最常被问到的问题之一。

这两年,三一堂分别有 108人 和 86人 参与 Ulu Julau 短宣。这样的动员力,难免让人以为三一堂是一间大教会。其实,三一堂是一间有三语崇拜的教会,分别是英语、华语和国语崇拜。若把三场崇拜分开来看,每一语堂的人数都不算特别多。之所以常被认为“大”,很多时候是因为三语会众加起来的总数。

那么,为什么三一堂能有这么多人参与 Ulu Julau 短宣呢?我相信,原因不在于教会有多大,而在于神如何在教会中塑造“合一”。

第一,合一的异象。
三一堂的异象宣言是:“同心合一跟随耶稣。”虽然三语崇拜有不同的语言、文化和背景,但我们所相信的是同一位神,所跟随的是同一位主。耶稣基督是教会的元首,因此,当教会谈到宣教时,我们看见的不是某一语堂的责任,而是整间教会共同回应神呼召的机会。

第二,合一的使命。
过去几年,我们以三一堂的英文简称 "TMC" 来提醒教会的使命:T: Transformation(转化)、M: Mission(使命)、C: Commitment(委身)。神呼召教会,不只为了聚会,而是要经历生命的转化,回应神的使命,并在跟随中活出委身。因此,短宣不再只是“附加的事工”,而是教会回应神使命的一部分。

第三,合一的牧者。
三一堂的牧者团有相同的异象和看见,不只鼓励会友参与宣教,也以身作则。今年更是四位牧者第一次一同参加短宣,这样的同行,成为教会很大的激励。当牧者一起走进禾场,一起经历辛苦、学习、服事与摆上,教会就更容易一同前行。

第四,合一的领袖。
若三语的领袖各自为政、各自筹备、各自推动,短宣的动员力必定会被削弱。但感谢神,三语的领袖愿意放下本位,学习一起祷告、一起讨论、一起推动宣教。不是“你做你的,我做我的”,而是一起问:神要三一堂怎样回应?

第五,合一的会友。
真正让人感恩的是,会友们愿意回应、同心参与。虽然大家来自不同语堂、不同年龄层和不同背景,但都愿意彼此配搭、彼此扶持,为福音一同摆上。这种合一,使短宣不只是一个事工,更成为整间教会共同的行动;而在过程中,也促进了彼此之间更深的联系与合一。

所以,三一堂能够有这么多人参与短宣,不是因为教会大,而是因为神恩待我们,让我们在磨合中学习合一。

愿主继续使用众教会,叫众教会都成为同心合一跟随耶稣,并乐意参与神宣教使命的教会。

《Not Because the Church Is Large, but Because It Is United》

“Is Trinity Methodist Church a big church? Otherwise, how could you mobilize so many members to join the short-term mission trip?”

This was one of the questions I was most often asked during the Ulu Julau short-term mission trip.

These two years, 108 and 86 members respectively from Trinity Methodist Church took part in the Ulu Julau short-term mission trip. Such strong participation naturally leads people to assume that Trinity is a large church. In reality, Trinity is a church with three worship congregations—English, Chinese, and Bahasa Malaysia. If each congregation is considered separately, none of them is particularly large. Trinity is often seen as a “big” church mainly because of the combined attendance of all three congregations.

So why has Trinity been able to mobilize so many people for the Ulu Julau short-term mission trip?

I believe the answer lies not in the size of the church, but in how God has been shaping unity within the church.

First, A United Vision.
Trinity’s vision statement is: “Following Jesus as ONE.” Although the three congregations differ in language, culture, and background, we believe in the same God and follow the same Lord. Jesus Christ is the Head of the church. Therefore, when we speak about missions, we do not see it as the responsibility of one congregation alone, but as an opportunity for the whole church to respond together to God’s call.

Second, A United Mission.
In the past few years, we have used Trinity’s English abbreviation, TMC, to remind ourselves of the church’s mission: T: Transformation, M: Mission, C: Commitment. God calls the church not merely to gather, but to be transformed, to respond to His mission, and to live lives of commitment in following Him. As a result, short-term missions are no longer viewed as an “extra ministry,” but as part of the church’s faithful response to God’s mission.

Third, United Pastors.
The pastoral team shares the same vision and conviction. We not only encourage members to participate in missions, but also lead by example. This year marked the first time that all four pastors joined the short-term mission trip together. Our shared participation became a great encouragement to the church. When pastors enter the harvest field together and experience the hardships, learning, service, and sacrifice side by side, the whole church finds it easier to move forward in unity.

Fourth, United Leaders.
If the leaders of the three congregations were working independently, planning separately, and pushing their own agendas, the church’s ability to mobilize for missions would certainly be weakened. But thank God, the leaders of the three congregations have been willing to lay aside their own preferences and learn to pray, discuss, and promote missions together. It is no longer, “You do your part, and I do mine,” but rather, “How is God calling Trinity Methodist Church to respond together?”

Fifth, United Members.
What is especially encouraging is that the members are willing to respond and participate with one heart. Though they come from different congregations, age groups, and backgrounds, they are willing to work together, support one another, and offer themselves for the sake of the gospel. This kind of unity makes the short-term mission trip more than just a ministry activity—it becomes a shared expression of the whole church’s obedience. In the process, relationships are deepened, and unity is strengthened even further.

So Trinity Methodist Church has been able to mobilize so many people for short-term missions not because the church is large, but because God has graciously taught us to grow in unity through learning, serving, and adjusting together.

May the Lord continue to use His churches, so that they may be united in following Jesus and willing to participate in God’s mission.

《To: You Who Can’t Celebrate Chinese New Year》

Chinese New Year often brings to mind going home, reunion, and laughter.
The streets are festive; every household is busy.
Yet—not everyone gets to celebrate.

Some cannot celebrate because they must stay at work.
While others gather for reunion dinner, they are still on duty, still meeting deadlines. It’s not that they don’t want to go home—responsibility holds their steps, and longing tugs at their hearts.

Some cannot celebrate because they have lost a loved one.
The house is the same; the red couplets remain unposted. The food is still prepared, yet that seat is empty.The more festive it is, the sharper the ache—grief does not suddenly stop.

Some cannot celebrate because of disaster or tragedy.
A sudden event presses pause on life. Plans, reunions, and greetings are disrupted, and we are reminded that tomorrow is not in our hands.

Some cannot celebrate because of illness.
When others speak of “a fresh start,” they can only hope for less pain today. Some wait to recover; some keep watch by a bedside, night after night.

So, as we celebrate Chinese New Year, let us not forget those who are suffering.
What we can do may not be much: let us make room for them in our prayers.
Human comfort is limited, but the Lord’s presence is real—and His grace is enough.

As we celebrate and gather, we also remember those who cannot. Draw near to them and grant them comfort and peace.
Strengthen those still at work, comfort the grieving, sustain those facing sudden tragedy, and heal the sick.
Stir our hearts to care in practical ways, so they may know the family of God still remembers them.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

《致:不能过年的你》

农历新年,总让人想到回家团圆与笑声。
街上红火热闹,家家忙忙碌碌。
然而——不是每个人都能过年。

有人因工作岗位无法过年。
别人围炉时,他仍在值班;别人拜年时,她还在赶工。
不是不想回家过年,而是责任留住脚步,也牵住思念。

有人因家人离世无法过年。
屋子依旧,红联未贴,饭菜照样预备,可那个位子空了。
越是节日越刺痛,越是热闹越沉默——痛不会忽然止息。

有人因天灾人祸无法过年。
一场变故让生活按下暂停键,计划、团聚与拜年全打乱。
我们不得不承认:明天不在掌心,人生未必照我们安排。

有人因疾病缠身无法过年。
当别人正说“新年新气象”时,他只盼望“今天少痛一点”。
有人正等待康复,也有人正守在病床旁,一夜又一夜。

所以,当我们欢庆农历新年时,也别忘了身在困苦中的人。
我们能做的真的不多:至少在祷告里,为他们留一段祝福。
人的陪伴有限,主的同在真实;人的安慰有限,主的恩典够用。

求你亲近他们,赐下安慰与平安。

Leadership for Various Activities in the Church

Leadership training is also included in the educational program of the church. The reason is that many sincere Christians do not know how to teach because they do not have the skills and are not adequately trained. There need to be continuous courses in leadership training for every age group.

Leadership training courses should include work in the Christian's responsibility (in the home, the church, and society). Training courses should not be limited to age group concerns. Some should cover a wider age-span so that programs can be developed that encourage older youth and adults to come together for mutual understanding and joint activity. This may help to break down the generation gap and create better relationships among church members.

Some of the methods for developing workers for the local church are:

1. guiding individual workers in service
2. training on-the-job
3. use of institutes, seminars, conferences, parents' study groups, and forums.

The church is not only a community where everyone is engaged in learning; it is also a family made up of young and old, men and women. The church as family is an organic unit. It must help its members to experience unity as they come to the church. It is to the family, as a specific part of the church's educational program, that the discussion now turns.
