We believe in “ARCHITECTURE THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE”
and we aim to provide design solutions that enhance the living experience of the built environment.

This comes from our concerns in the rootedness of architecture in the living and cultural context. PDC Design Group was established in January 2016 as a result of the merger of three Kuching based architectural and design firms. The three firms have a history of close collaboration with each other, and share the same vision and similar professional, ethical and cultural values towards the practice

The Sjkc Chung Hua Batu 11 project has come to completion, marking a new beginning for the children, families, and wider local community.

We are deeply honoured that the Deputy Premier Prof. Sim commended the design of the school, making this achievement even more meaningful to our team. Beyond being a place for learning, we hope the school will become an important local landmark and a shared place that the community can identify with and call its own.

We are grateful to have played a part in this meaningful project, made possible through the collective efforts of the Sarawak Government, the School Board, the local community, parents, consultants, contractors, and everyone who contributed along the way.

It was a proud moment for our team to attend the official opening ceremony of St. Joseph’s Private School. Seeing the spaces come to life, filled with students, educators, and the community, is the most rewarding part of the journey.

Here’s a glimpse of the celebration and the architecture behind the vision.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this project a reality.

Architecture That Makes A Difference
SJK CHung Hua Batu 11 Matang
A Lantern for the Community:
At night, the school transforms into a luminous civic landmark. Rather than lighting only enclosed rooms, the design illuminates the external corridors, balconies, staircases, entrance steps, and planted screens, revealing the building’s layers of movement and shared activity. The warm orange learning cube becomes a visual focus, while the broad canopy and grand steps create a welcoming threshold for evening gatherings and community events. Reflected in the adjacent stream, the school appears as a lantern in the landscape—extending its identity beyond the school day and strengthening its presence within the community.

We are honoured to receive the PAM Award 2026, Educational Category, Commendation for Borneo International School.

The project was conceived as a contemporary tropical learning environment that rethinks the conventional school corridor into a Living Street, a series of connected spaces for movement, interaction, informal learning and visual connection.

Designed within a growing residential precinct, the school is envisioned not only as a place for education, but also as a future landmark for the neighbourhood. Its courtyards, shaded verandas, open corridors and layered learning pockets encourage students to move naturally between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The building responds to the tropical climate through careful orientation, natural ventilation, deep roof overhangs, screens, fins and landscaped buffers, creating a learning environment that is practical, comfortable, playful and grounded in its context.

Grateful to the client, consultants, builders, PDC team members, and everyone involved in making this project possible.
