Tribal Is more than just Black Ink. - It is only highly regarded because they are backed by a long line of traditions of animistic and mysticism. In the past, in order to achieve such awareness and connections to the universe, one becomes a shaman, with the power of healing, craftsmanship and leadership to a community of the needed soul, both physically and spiritually. The ones that are receptive to the eye, and the ones that chills our spines.

Growing up, one of the first challenges our dads or older brothers threw our way was learning how to clean and debone a fish. It might seem small, but for a lot of us, it was a rite of passage — a hands-on lesson in stepping up and becoming a man. For that, thanks Jonnathan for reminding us of the good’ol’ days..

Historically — and even today — tattoos weren’t originally intended to be “artistic” in the way we think of art now. They were meant to make the wearer more powerful, and to imitate how the gods were imagined to appear in the clouds — a vision humanity has fantasized about for thousands of years.

So how do we apply that same concept today? Through technical skill and strong aesthetics.

Now, you might ask — aren’t tattoos a form of art? Personally, I believe they shouldn’t be treated just as “art.” Anyone who has tattooed for a long time knows that skin is one of the most limited mediums we have. You can’t just buy a new layer of skin if a tattoo goes wrong — it’s a living organ. Skin reacts to everything: if the needle isn’t deep enough, the tattoo fades; if it’s too deep, the skin can reject the ink. Some skin tones don’t hold certain colors well, and sometimes, if the tattoo is too light, it ends up looking more like a sticker or a printed image rather than a real tattoo.

Sure, it might look fancy at first — but will it last? Does it give you the same sense of power our ancestors felt? Or does it just fade into something forgettable over time?

And speaking of time, that’s why you pay us: for something permanent. Not for something trendy that fades out in five years.

If you’ve read this far, you deserve to know: tattoos need to be practical. They need to be readable, bold, simplified — and most importantly, they should empower you. No one ever regrets a good tattoo, I promise you that.

A tattoo shouldn’t look like an old pair of underwear after a few months — that’s a sign the style didn’t work. So do your research.

Don’t get robbed by trendy, overpriced tattoo artists.
