Some people are put off by the cost of handmade soap.

You probably look at a bar of natural soap and wonder why it costs more.

I mean, soap is soap, right? Both bars clean your skin, right?

While I may agree that both bars clean the skin, the similarity goes no further.

Simply put, commercial soaps contain synthetic ingredients that are very cheap to produce in a lab.

But here are some things to think about!

Commercial soap companies do not want extra oils or glycerin in their soaps because they decrease shelf-life. Without these extra oils to moisturise your skin, you must reach for that bottle of lotion!

So what does it mean for you as a customer?

You’ll need to buy more products to get the same moisturising effect from a single bar of handmade soap

Simply put, more product, more money flying away.

If your skin gets oily quickly, you may be tempted to wash your face multiple times a day.

However, this will do more harm than good👀

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, you should only wash your face twice a day (and after sweating heavily).

That’s because over-cleansing your skin can lead to an increase in oil production, which can leave your complexion looking even greasier.

It’s best to stick to your morning and evening skin care regimen.

When I first started soap making, I didn't have many tools to start with. I still remember my first soap-making attempt, I used a milk carton as a mold and a spatula to mix the ingredients (no mixer, no machine- just hard labor).

Truth be told, soap-making is an expensive hobby to start with.

But, I was determined to make it happen.

Although the soap is hard brick by the time I need to place it inside of the mold (I reckon the lye solution is too hot when I pour it with oil mix), happy to say I did manage to get a block of soap at the end of the day.

P/s I may have lost the picture from my first soap-making attempt but I still have a few to show you from my earlier days. Help yourself to the first few of my handmade soaps.

What nobody tells you about using soap for your skin...

You know that soap is used to clean your face or body, but nobody tells you that it is actually a detergent!😱

Most store-bought soaps are made using the most economical ingredients available.

Often they contain some or all synthetic detergents that can be harmful to your skin if used over a long period of time.

These detergents also disrupt the natural function of the skin as well as cause allergic reactions in those with skin sensitivities.

So before you head out to shower today, think about how long you can put up with commercial soap before your skin starts to become sensitive.

Many different oils can be used to make soap.

But what sort of oils are the right ones to use in soap?

While different soap maker has their own recipe, our base oil is curated in a way to get a hard bar and both moisturizing to the skin.

The lemongrass soap bar is scented with lemongrass essential oil or known as Serai.

While this may famously be used for cooking, the aroma of Serai or lemongrass is considered fresh and can lift up your mood.

When I first formulate this soap, I'm not happy with the scent. Either tea tree or lavender by itself is too strong for my liking.

Hence, I create a blend that complements both scents without being too overpowering.

Tea trees and lavender blend just nicely and provide an earthy scent that reminds me of a peaceful forest.
