📍 Catch-Up Meetings in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
🗓️ 21 May 2026

While in Sabah, the CHANGE team ( Ai Goto Joanne JT Mun) took the opportunity to reconnect with three past CHANGE Microgrant partners based in Kota Kinabalu.

Although their funded project periods have already ended, we believe that meaningful partnerships should not end when the grant ends. These catch-up meetings allowed us to learn about their recent developments, hear about challenges they continue to face, and explore future possibilities for collaboration and impact.

🤝 Dorisch Enterprise
We met with Ms Doris to learn about the progress of her community-based jewellery initiative and the opportunities it continues to create for local women.

♻️ LJD Corporation LJD
We met with Ms Saila Saidie and her team to hear updates on their plastic upcycling work with marginalised communities and discuss environmental sustainability challenges in Sabah.

🌱 Social Farming Enterprise
We had an engaging discussion with Mr Kent Chau and Mr Tom Wong about hydroponic farming and its potential application in schools, hostels, healthcare facilities, and other community settings.

These conversations reminded us that small grants can plant seeds that continue to grow well beyond the initial project period.

Thank you to all our project partners for your warm hospitality, ongoing dedication, and commitment to creating positive change in your communities.

Small Grants, Big Change.

📍 Site Visit to Keningau, Sabah
🗓️ 19–20 May 2026

As part of our ongoing monitoring and learning process, the CHANGE team recently visited Keningau, Sabah to observe two projects supported through the CHANGE Microgrant Programme 2025/26.

These site visits are an important opportunity for us to better understand the realities on the ground, learn from our project partners, and see firsthand how small grants can contribute to meaningful change in local communities.

🌱 Project #1: Slice of Care
Project Partner: Keningau Vocational College
Project Lead: Teacher Syafiqah Eugene

This project provides baking skills training for women working in cleaning and support roles, as well as women from the surrounding community. Through practical training led by teachers and supported by vocational college students, participants gain skills that can help them generate additional income and strengthen their economic resilience.

We were delighted to meet the participants, observe the training sessions, and see the cakes and products they had learned to create. It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and determination of both the trainers and participants.

🎲 Project #2: Good Games
Project Partners: EUREKA Hub & Keningau Vocational College
Project Lead: Teacher Khalifa Affnan

This creative project empowers students to design educational board games for younger learners and the wider community. During our visit, students introduced two game prototypes they had developed: one focusing on anti-bullying awareness and another on financial literacy.

We had the opportunity to play the games together and were impressed by how engaging, educational, and thoughtfully designed they were. What stood out most was the students’ initiative in creating activities that encourage face-to-face interaction, collaboration, and learning beyond screens.

Beyond the projects themselves, this visit reminded us of the passion, creativity, and commitment of educators, students, and community members working together to create positive change.

A heartfelt thank you to Keningau Vocational College, EUREKA Hub, Teacher Syafiqah Eugene, Teacher Khalifa Affnan, and everyone involved for warmly welcoming us and sharing your inspiring work.

“Slice of Care” project at Keningau Vocational College, lead by the enthusiastic Teacher Syafiqah who is also a graduate from this school.

This project engaged with students and trained local women to bake and sell cakes so that they can increase income in near future. Sweet cakes can enrich your sweet dreams of entrepreneurship!

This has developed 2 educational board games from the scratch; stopping school bullying & financial deal. The student team reached out to surrounding community to facilitate learning through games.

Special credit goes to Teacher Khalifa who made it all possible.

Where imagination knows no bounds. ✨🎨
Spent an incredible day at SK Ledang in Johor for the MYLES (Malaysian Learning Spaces ) Ruang2Gather workshop. This program is one of this year’s CHANGE Microgrant awardees and all about empowering students with special education needs to express, visualize and design their own ideal learning spaces, supported by multiple phases of teachers training and parents involvement throughout the programme.

After a day of immersive learning walks where students led adults through the school from their perspectives, the second day workshop started with a hands-on visual art and moved into the digital world using Roblox to bring their visions in 3D! 💻✨ Ai Goto and Joanne Mun joined from our team.

It’s amazing to see what happens when we prioritize inclusivity and creativity in education.

A huge thank you to Dr. Syaza and Cikgu Ainul, students and teachers from SK Ledang, and all the dedicated teacher buddies and design volunteers for joining hands to make this happen.
Every child deserves an environment where they can truly shine. 🤍
