๐ธ๐ฒMoney Skill In Real Life
As we grow the money skills tree, a key factor is allowing the Autistic Adult (AA) to practice good decision making.
It is so much easier to take control and advise or tell them what to do. And in this situation, it was what I really wanted to do.
But I realised that if I let her decide, she would be better because of it. So I stood firm - although unsure of the outcome.
I am so glad that I did.
Jolin made a good decision, and she felt proud of herself, and I felt proud of her too.
She did not realize but she was practicing her self-control and decision making muscles.
She may not always get it right from here on, but I do know that with more and more real life experiences like this, with good questions and supports, she will get stronger at making better decisions and an increased understanding of how to manage the money she has.
We already see here that she could:
- explore options (buy something cheaper)
- knew that she could wait for her favourite
- choose food (NEED) and a small blind box (WANT) vs just a big WANT
Great beginnings!
What are some ways your AA practiced making decisions with their money? Comment below, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you Jabil Malaysia for inviting us to start a conversation about unlocking neurodiverse talent and exploring how you can foster inclusion in the workplace.
We were excited to see directors of supply chain, finance and IT all in attendance showing a desire to explore inclusion of neurodiverse talents.
The students were able to set up booth to sell , and LemmeGift scented wax tablets to which we had a great response!
Creating pathways, not just positions.
Honoured to share on inclusive hiring with Jabil and take one step closer to workplaces that work for all.
Looking forward to partner more with you all in future days!
๐ฒ๐ฐBuilding Money Skills - Episode 3
We are really proud of how our students at LemmeLearn progress with their money skills.
Our trainers, classes and programmes are solid- yes, but there are also simple practices we do often that contribute to their progress.
One of which is practice in-house, practice in real life.
Do it consistently and we guarantee, progress will follow.
We are sharing one of the tools we use, our โshopโ that enables our students to practice using their wallet, money and purchasing in a controlled environment before sending them out.

Building Everyday Skills ๐
Over the past week(s), our students learned about the concepts of needs and wants.
They started by learning the difference between the two: a need is something we must have, while a want is something that is nice to have, but not necessary. They then learned how to use a checklist to help decide which category an item belongs to.
After that, students applied the checklist to identify whether different items were needs or wants.
Learning this skill helps students make smarter choices, spend wisely, and build independence in everyday life. ๐ก

Hereโs something important to remember ๐ฑ
When we teach life skills, we are the soil.
Our tone.
Our patience.
Our ability to stay calm when mistakes happen.
Thatโs what allows for a positive experience that fosters learning.
That's what builds relationship and connection.
Because for many teens with special needs, understanding money is hard.
And for you, staying calm when youโre frustrated is hard too.
Both things can be true.
Start small. Stay patient. The learning will come ๐ณ

๐ฐ๐ธMoney Skills Series - Episode 1
Most parents start by teaching their autistic teen how to spend money.
But hereโs the truthโฆ
๐ก Money skills donโt start with spending.
They start with understanding.
Think of it like growing a tree ๐ณ
You canโt focus on the fruitโฆ
if the roots arenโt strong first.
Before budgeting, saving, or making โgood choicesโโฆ
your teen needs to understand:
โข What money is
โข Why we need money (And the opportunities it brings)
โข And the basics of ringgit and cents
And the good news?
You donโt need complicated lessons.
Just ONE intentional moment a day that builds connection and can be done at home

๐Happy World Autism Awareness Day to the beautiful people who have the courage to show up, each and every day.
The world is a better place because of people with autism and we would not have it any other wayโจ
Our autistic students have taught us:
- To be authentic and honest
- To care deeply
- To get excited about living life
- That a structured life is a calmer life
- To see the little things others overlook
- To sing our hearts out๐ค๐ถ
How do we love and include them well? This post shares their hopes.

This sessionโs topic was โAccepting and Coping with Differences in Friendships.โ
Navigating differences isnโt easy. In this session, we explored tools like the โLevels of Likeโ (credit to Social Thinking) to help us.
Students were given a collaborative task where their differences naturally surfaced. It gave us a valuable opportunity to facilitate and debrief on how to cope and respond in those moments.
So proud of our graduates and how far theyโve come โจ
