🌴 REAL TALK: Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun --MY VERSION:
Alright, real talk. Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun has a ton of fun built in — huge waterpark, beautiful modern rooms, lots of activities, and endless pool time. On paper, it should’ve been an amazing trip.
But here’s the honest version: I got sick, ....we got sick... it’s remote, the beach water was murky, it’s a pool resort (not a beach resort), and let me tell you… throwing up on a plane is rougher than anything I planned for this vacation. 🥲
The staff were lovely, the property was clean, and families around me were having a blast. But once you get sick on vacation, the whole vibe shifts. It doesn’t matter how many restaurants or pools there are — you’re just trying to get through the day. And the flight home? Brutal. Nothing humbles you faster than being sick at 30,000 feet.
And the location? Definitely remote. You’re not in the hotel zone. You’re not near shops or nightlife. You’re out on your own stretch, which is peaceful but also means longer drives for pretty much everything.
And the beach — here’s the truth. If you’re dreaming of turquoise water and long, swimmable stretches of sand… this isn’t that resort. The water was murky during my stay, and most people ended up sticking to the pools and waterpark anyway. This is a pool resort first, full stop.
Could the sickness have been food? A bug going around? Just bad luck? No idea. But it happened, and I’m always going to be upfront about MY experience.
Would I go back? Probably not. There’s a lot families will love, but for me, the combination of getting sick, the remote location, and the beach not being the highlight means it’s not a repeat destination.
If you’ve stayed here, I’d genuinely love to hear how your trip went. The more real experiences we share, the better decisions people can make.

Royalton confirms it has received roughly 7,000 complaints connected to the holiday opening. The complaints are a mix of requests for compensation, refunds, & to be paid back for extra expenses incurred booking their own lodging elsewhere.
We were still under major construction and unable to provide all amenities promised. Primarily, due to staffing shortages.
We knew ahead of time this would happen as we do this with each of our hotel openings.
Our CEO said, and apologizes to our most valued customers.
