Vehicles registered in Chapala are EXEMPT the certificate of emissions inspection (Verificacion Responsible).

However, vehicles that are registered or circulate in Jocotepec, Guadalajara and Metropolitan areas are REQUIRED to get the emissions test.
Currently – for those vehicles registered in Chapala - the license bureau is not asking for the Certificate to get replacement plates.
But this could change at any time.

Contrary to the original requirements, it's confirmed by the license bureau (Recaudadora): if your vehicle is registered in Chapala or Jocotepec, you will be required to present an emissions certificate (Verificacion Responsable), as part of the requirements to get replacement license plates.
This is done by appointment (https://verificacionresponsable.jalisco.gob.mx/).

CAR TIPS FOR THE DAY
- Tires are porous ... with that, over time the air will leak out. Check the air pressure on your vehicle tires monthly.
- Don't let the gas tank go under a quarter tank. Bad for the fuel filter and fuel pump.
- If your car has Turbo, be sure to use only Premium fuel. Here in Mexico, using regular gas will void the warranty.
- Use your hand brake when parking on a hill. As well turn your wheels away from the curb if parking uphill, and toward the curb if parking downhill.
