Increase civil servants salary with 50℅ please

Malawi has recently gone through an economic turmoil due the cumulative 69℅ depreciation of the local currency as the central bank devalued the kwacha with 44℅ and 25℅ and continues to do so.

The purchasing power of the kwacha deteriorated leading to the current inflation at 33.7 percent, an increase from the 33.3 percent recorded in June 2024. Food and Non-Food inflation rates are at 41.9 percent and 22.4 percent, respectively. This is the worst the current government has achieved.

The current economic status is not felt by judiciary only, it is being felt by lecturers in public and private universities, it is being felt by teachers in primary and secondary schools, it is being felt by police officers and soldiers at MDF, it is being felt by nurses and doctors and vendors in our markers.

It is insensitive, therefore, to effect 44℅ for only one section of the society, every Malawian is feeling the pain and deserves better. We need justice for all Malawians.

Our mainstream media can do better on Chilima's dornier 228 crash report

There is a "Reporter" and there is a "Journalist ". After government spokesperson, Hon Moses Kumkuyu, contradicted President Chakwera yesterday, the story on Chilima's plane crash report automatically moved from the desk of a reporter to that of a journalist.

If that happened, today we wouldn't have The Daily Times newspaper reporting " crash Report Not In-Gov" as the main story. Instead, they could tell us the true position of the issue after doing a through investigation just like DW's Josey Mahachie.

On the other hand, The Nation newspaper made some good strides by contacting authorities in Germany but that was not enough as their story still leaves us hanging without knowing the actual position of the matter.

We expect the current contradiction to continue on this matter as it started with the president himself and MDF soon after the incident happened. However, what we do not expect is the indecisive media that is incapable of doing an independent research and perform their watchdog role with credible information.

There is something so intriguing about Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika which you only know it when you come close to him.

Listening to his Times exclusive interview with Brian Banda yesterday, I was reminded that APM is so keen in addressing fundamental issues of inequality and he explained this in a simple narrative where he talked about Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus who is famous for his selfless devotion to the republic in times of crisis.

In that narrative, APM demonstrated that he is aware of the crisis which Malawi is going through and just like Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus who rejected calls for dictatorship but just liberated his people and left the stage when the crisis was over, this APM you see today is on a mission.

Dear friends,

Today I had a sober reflection of our national development agenda in light of the recently conducted elective conference by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) . My heart melts when I remember the dance steps of that old female delegate who kept dancing the whole night not because DJ Moda spiced up our convention but because APM planted words of hope in his opening remarks.

I am constantly praying to God to keep Myself abreast about this change that is imminent. We must never disappoint those delegates and Malawians at large, so help me God.
