After three solid weeks of dedicated work in Karonga, Hedi, together with her husband, has left the country with great satisfaction on all fronts. Their three-week mission is now complete and with that, our task as IIISCOD, as well as the SES’s part, has been successfully accomplished.Of course, no work stands complete without the beneficiaries, who too are left satisfied and a bit wiser than before. What remains for us now is to ensure that the knowledge and materials shared by this noble expert are put to good and consistent use.Gratitude, indeed, is a must. Special mention and appreciation to our foot soldier, Keta for the dedication.

On one of the early days as she embarked on her work in February, Heidi toured the library just to appreciate what the learners have been reading. Thanks to all partners that make this worthwhile.

In our quest to contribute to SDG 4, Quality Education, and in particular Target 4.4 on ICT skills, the past two weeks have been an exciting chapter in the education journey of children with hearing difficulties at Karonga School for the Deaf. IIISCOD, with the help from SES, sent an expert in education for children with hearing difficulties to Karonga School for the deaf, who has been working closely with both teachers and learners to improve teaching and learning for the betterment of education. She brought with her four laptops to help the children kick‑start their ICT skills and open doors to digital learning.These laptops are giving learners their first hands‑on experience with computers, helping them build confidence and essential ICT skills for their future. IIISCOD will ensure that children continue practicing, learning, and using the computers for their own good and long‑term empowerment. IIISCOD implores the Inclusive Education Desk at Karonga District Education Manager's Office to ensure continued support to the children.

IIISCOD has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with SES. Through the late Chawanangwa, may his soul rest in peace, we built strong relationships with experts who continue to support our community work.

This month, we are delighted to welcome Heidi, a dear friend and passionate partner who has shown great dedication to our shared mission. Heidi is an expert in working with children with hearing difficulties and those who care for them. She will be with us for three weeks, and we deeply appreciate the support and expertise she continues to share at Karonga School for the Deaf.

This marks Heidi’s third visit to us, and she is joined by one of our most dedicated members, Keta — always cheerful and welcoming. Together, they make a wonderful team!

Heidi also brings some exciting New Year surprises, which we will reveal as her work unfolds.

2025 ended on a sad note with IIISCOD losing one of its valuable Board Members and a Team Leader. We hope that 2026's journey will be okay with baby steps and support from our partners and stakeholders. Wishing you a prosperous year as we strive to develop the communities we work with.
