Thank you to everyone who showed up to our public forum on elections and money, and shared the experiences regarding the systems shaping our political future and the important work that needs to be done to address it. The forum was a space to discuss the realities of political financing and the gaps that leave our democratic processes vulnerable to the influence of money.

Democracy shapes many aspects of our daily lives, from the opportunities available to us and the services we rely on to the rights and freedoms we enjoy.

This year's International Day of Democracy theme, "When every voice counts, democracy delivers," reminds us that a democracy cannot thrive when decisions are made behind closed doors or when people are excluded from decision-making.

When people can meaningfully participate in decisions that affect their lives, institutions are more accountable, policies are more responsive, and communities are stronger.

Transparency Maldives held a Vilunveri Psychosocial Support Programme training on 30-31 August 2026 in Th. Veymandoo, bringing together 18 stakeholders from the Island Council, education, health, justice and law enforcement, and child protection sector.

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of mental health and psychosocial support, and build their capacity to support the psychosocial well-being of children and young people in their community.

Under the Resilient Communities Project, in collaboration with Society for Health Education (SHE) TM supported a series of Positive Parenting Sessions in Th. Veymandoo from 22 - 24 Aug 2026.

The sessions brought together 133 parents of students from Foundation through Key Stage 4, providing practical guidance on positive parenting, communication, and strengthening parent–child relationships.

Building stronger parenting skills and awareness is an important part of strengthening children’s wellbeing and resilience within our communities, and remains a crucial need across communities.

Transparency Maldives held a Youth Camp in R. Ungoofaaru from 18–20 August 2026, bringing together young people from the community for three days of learning, discussion, and reflection.

The camp explored topics including democracy, good governance, human rights, social accountability, career guidance, and mental health and wellbeing, supporting young people to strengthen their understanding of civic life, their rights, and their role in shaping their communities.
