International Press Statement – World Press Freedom Day 2026

On May 3rd, we join the global community in honoring World Press Freedom Day. Freedom of the press is not a privilege, it is a fundamental human right.

A free press ensures that truth is heard, power is held accountable, and democracy is protected. When journalists are silenced, societies lose their voice, and human rights are placed at risk.

As Youth for Human Rights International and Yeshua Fellowship – The Christian Humanitarian, we stand united with journalists, advocates, and citizens worldwide who defend freedom of expression.

Today, we call on governments, institutions, and communities to:

• Safeguard the independence of the press.
• Protect journalists from intimidation and violence.
• Uphold transparency and accountability in public life.

Stand for freedom. Speak for truth. Defend human rights.

Every worker has the right to dignity, security, and well‑being, as affirmed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Protecting health means more than preventing accidents — it means safeguarding mental health against stress, burnout, bullying, and overwork.

This year’s message is creatively brought to life by our next‑generation youth volunteer, showing how young leaders are shaping awareness and change.

At Youth for Human Rights Mauritius and Yeshua Fellowship, we champion mental health as a fundamental human right. By prioritizing self‑care and resilience, we empower communities to thrive and ensure that workplaces become spaces of safety, respect, and inclusion.
