MT: Illum, 7 ta' Ġunju, Malta tiftakar fis-Sette Giugno! 🇲🇹

F’dan il-jum fl-1919, il-poplu Malti qam biex jipprotesta kontra l-għoli tal-ħajja u l-faqar, filwaqt li talab drittijiet u governanza rappreżentattiva mill-awtoritajiet kolonjali Brittaniċi. Dan l-irvell irriżultat fi traġedja, fejn grupp Maltin tilfu ħajjithom biex iwittu t-triq lejn l-indipendenza u l-kostituzzjoni tagħna. Dan għalih għandna nkunu ferm grati.

Is-Sette Giugno huwa simbolu tal-kuraġġ, l-għaqda, u d-determinazzjoni tal-Maltin li jiddefendu drittijiethom.

Aħna minn JEF Malta nibqgħu niftakru dawn l-atti b'ringrazzjament u ispirazzjoni 🤍

EN: Today, 7th June, Malta remembers Sette Giugno! 🇲🇹

On this day in 1919, the Maltese people rose up to protest against the high cost of living and poverty, while demanding rights and representative governance from the British colonial authorities. This uprising resulted in a tragedy, where a group of Maltese men lost their lives, paving the way for our constitutional rights and ultimate self-determination. We should be very grateful for these courageous acts.

Sette Giugno stands as a symbol of courage, unity, and the resilience of the Maltese people in standing up for their rights.

We at JEF Malta will always remember these acts with gratitude and inspiration 🤍

For our fourth Blog Post this term, one of our alumni, Martin Bajada, wrote an academic piece entitled 'Jus Cohens in International Law: Essential Norms Amidst Practical Challenges'! ⚖️⭐️

"To fulfil the promise of jus cogens, the international community must commit to ongoing clarification of identification criteria, development of enforceable mechanisms, and renewed political will. As global challenges evolve, from environmental crises to corporate accountability, so too must the understanding and application of peremptory norms. Strengthening the role of jus cogens is essential not only for legal coherence, but for upholding the foundational principles of justice and human rights in international law.' 🌎
