73 Detained Fishermen Returned to Bangladesh

A total of 73 Bangladeshi fishermen who were detained by the Arakan Army have been brought back to Bangladesh today. The fishermen were reportedly held after crossing into Myanmar waters while fishing.

Border authorities confirmed that the group was handed over through proper channels and safely returned home. Local officials said necessary procedures were completed, and the fishermen have now reunited with their families.

Myanmar–China bilateral trade has increased by 19 percent compared to previous years, Chinese Ambassador Mr. Mi Ma Kya stated at the Chinese New Year celebration held yesterday.

He noted that, due to the recent clashes in northern Shan State, almost all cross-border trade between the two countries had been halted, and trade routes have not yet fully returned to normal. In this context, the Ambassador highlighted that trade and investment activities have been growing, which carries an important message.

According to Al Jazeera, at least six people were killed and 46 others injured when a bus crashed on a highway in southeastern Brazil on Monday. The crash happened on the BR-153 federal highway near the city of Marília in São Paulo state after a rear tyre burst and the vehicle skidded off the road and flipped over, authorities said.

Local media reported the bus was carrying farm workers from the northeastern state of Maranhão to southern Santa Catarina for the apple harvest, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

This incident reflects the larger problem of frequent deadly road accidents in Brazil, where traffic fatalities are very high, with more than 10,000 traffic deaths reported in 2024.

BREAKING NEWS | Myanmar–Bangladesh Border

A young girl, Huzayfa Sultana Afnan, from Teknaf Upazila has passed away after suffering critical gunshot injuries in a cross-border incident along the Myanmar–Bangladesh border.

She was injured on January 11 after being hit by a bullet during firing reportedly carried out by the Arakan Army (AA). The child was immediately transferred to a specialized hospital in Dhaka, where she remained under intensive treatment for 27 days.

Despite all medical efforts, she passed away at around 9:50 AM today due to the severity of her injuries, hospital sources confirmed.

The tragic incident has raised serious concerns over civilian safety in border areas, with growing calls for an independent and transparent investigation.

He stated, “We do not agree to discuss any issues with the Americans or anyone else under threats. When it comes to nuclear-related talks and resolving key issues, we have emphasized that discussions must take place only in a calm and stable environment—without pressure, intimidation, or threats against us.”

He added that the primary prerequisite for any dialogue is the complete cessation of threats and pressure imposed on Iran.

“We have made this position very clear today, and we hope that they will fully respect and adhere to this condition so that talks can continue,” he said.
