It’s so nice to be in Dakar again- @biennale_de_dakar_officiel Let’s begin with the Design section that is part of the official Biennale this year again- after it had been moved to the «  Off » part of it for many years. It’s a thrill to see extraordinary pieces by the «  father » of contemporary African design, Malian designer/artist/sculptor Cheick Diallo @cheicko26 . The four works exhibited at the Biennale demonstrate his talent as an inventor of forms as well as the exacting craftsmanship the Malian artisans have reached in their making. We are thrilled to announce that ‘M'be yan II’ by has become part of the collection of the . This unique work of functional art by the Malian architect-designer was acquired at in Miami last December. The seat was made from panels of recycled steel sourced from an informal market in Bamako where local craftsmen repurpose metal waste. The deceptively simple design of ‘M’be yan II’ reimagines what a chair can be: in this case, at its essence, a box with two slanted panels inserted to form a backrest and seat.
