One in three of the 228 million women in the EU endures domestic violence.
Since 2006, we have worked to combat this abuse.
♀ Most recently, we helped shape the first EU law aiming to protect women from domestic violence. Thanks to our advocacy, the final legislation includes a broader definition of violence, an intersectional approach, and stronger support services.
️♀ We contributed to the 69th UN Commission on the Status of Women and adopted a resolution supporting the Declaration of Principles for a Gender-Equal Society.
Yet more must be done. We urge for the inclusion of domestic violence in the list of EU crimes and the promotion of comprehensive sexual education, among other critical measures.

Ready for a swim? 🌊
85.4% of bathing waters in the EU meet the highest excellent quality standards, according to the 2024 European Environment Agency report.
Protecting water for future generations, while securing clean and affordable access is essential. That’s exactly the goal of the European Commission’s new Water Resilience Strategy, which strongly aligned with our EU Blue Deal’s call.
Through this call, we aim to foster water resilience, reduce water waste and pollution, among other goals, working alongside EU civil society to protect water as a common good.

The rise of housing prices poses a social, territorial and economic threat.
Housing affordability directly affects workers and businesses alike, increasing wage pressures, reducing international competitiveness and hindering regional cohesion policy.
To address the challenges arising from the housing crisis, we recommend:
🏠 increasing funds and smarter financing strategies, aligned with the cohesion policy framework;
🏠 including representatives from EU countries, local authorities and social partners in the Housing Task Force working group established by the European Commission;
🏠 making investments in sustainable housing a strategic priority for EU cohesion funds beyond 2027, among other measures.

Strengthening EU’s strategic autonomy is one of our key priorities. 🇪🇺
How are we doing it? By delivering concrete recommendations on reindustrialisation, innovation, and sustainable resource use, helping the Union reduce dependency and boost resilience.
We are exploring how to support emerging technologies like sodium batteries, often overlooked in favour of lithium, and highlighting the potential of permanent materials.
These steps are vital to improve our competitiveness, sustainability, and long-term autonomy.

Several European countries have recently implemented changes related to the employment of foreign workers, particularly focusing on attracting skilled labor and streamlining the immigration process.
These changes include modifications to the EU Blue Card system, adjustments to work permit requirements, and new initiatives aimed at integrating migrants into the labor market.
EU Blue Card:
The EU Blue Card, designed for highly skilled workers, has been expanded to include a wider range of individuals.
Graduates from the past three years can now be eligible for a Blue Card if their job meets a minimum salary threshold, which in Germany is 45.3% of the annual assessment ceiling for pension insurance (in 2025: €43,759.80).
IT specialists without a university degree can also qualify if they possess at least three years of comparable professional experience.
There's increased flexibility for Blue Card holders to change positions or employers during the first 12 months of employment.
Family members of Blue Card holders can now accompany them and access the EU labor market.
Simplified mobility rules allow Blue Card holders and their families to move to a second Member State after 12 months of employment.
Other Changes:
Germany:
The Skilled Immigration Act has made it easier for skilled workers with vocational training and practical experience to immigrate.
Croatia:
New rules include longer validity periods for residence and work permits, including up to three years for regular permits and up to 18 months for digital nomads. Croatia also has a minimum salary requirement for Blue Card holders (1.5 times the average gross wage).
Denmark:
Stricter requirements for foreign companies posting workers, including the need for workers to present valid ID to Danish authorities.
Poland:
From June 1, 2025, it will no longer be necessary to submit information from the district governor (starosta) to obtain a work permit for a foreigner.
General Trends:
Several countries are focusing on labor market integration policies, including job search assistance, recognition of foreign qualifications, and language courses.
Overall:
These changes reflect a broader trend in Europe to address demographic challenges and labor shortages by attracting skilled workers while also streamlining the immigration process.
The EU is also working on initiatives to support member states in managing these demographic shifts and utilizing legal migration to fill labor gaps.
