Riga, Latvia, June 11, 2019 – The race for the 2020 World Chess Championship continues in Riga with the second leg in the FIDE World Chess Grand Prix Series.

The event takes place in Latvian capital from July 12 to July 24, 2019.

The second leg of the FIDE Grand Prix is over, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has taken a significant step toward trying to become the challenger for next year’s World Chess Championship match. The Grand Prix Series is at halfway, so that there is still a long way to go before grandmaster from Azerbaijan, or anyone else, will earn the right to play for the title.
