The second leg of the FIDE Grand Prix is over, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has taken a significant step toward trying to become the challenger for next year’s World Chess Championship match. The Grand Prix Series is at halfway, so that there is still a long way to go before grandmaster from Azerbaijan, or anyone else, will earn the right to play for the title.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave beats Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in a straight-forward game and equalizes the score. The tension rises at the final of the FIDE Grand Prix organized by World Chess in Riga, as the fight will be decided on Wednesday in a tie-break.
