Curious about the behind-the-scenes work of Basemotion team?
Our process often begins in one of two ways.
Sometimes our clients — typically drone show producers — come to us with
a storyboard.
Other times, we’re brought in earlier to help develop the creative concept from scratch. In those cases, we work closely with the client to create the storyline that aligns with your brand, event, or initiative.
Once the concept is in place, our designers and animators transform it into 3D aniamtion, artistic nuanses and smooth motion. This stage involves close collaboration with our technical experts to ensure precise ex*****on and a coherent flow from idea to sky.
The drone show design industry isn’t static.

What a historical moment!
We are thrilled to congratulate the team behind the animation film Flow that won an Oscar! This is a special moment for Latvia and for all independent filmmakers—an incredible achievement that truly showcases the talent and dedication to their craft.
We celebrate all the brilliant talents who made it happen. A special shout-out goes to Martins Upitis, 3D Technical Artist, whose contribution was also instrumental to Basemotion's success.

✨ Creating a drone show isn’t just about flying drones; it’s about telling a story from start to finish. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the process:
✅ The story idea.
Every show begins with a spark of inspiration. Whether it’s for an event, a brand or a city celebration - the first step is crafting the message of the story. What would you like your audience to know, experience, or remember?
✅ The storyboard*.
Once we’ve got a clear storyline, it’s time to sketch it out. Storyboarding is crucial—it’s where we draw visuals in a way that conveys the story clearly.
Every drone has its role, and the storyboard is the blueprint that turns our creative ideas into a tangible plan.
✅ Design and animation.
Design is where we create the visuals, followed by animation. Using advanced software, we animate each drone’s path, ensuring precision and synchronization to create a seamless experience in the sky. Every frame is meticulously crafted to make the vision come true.
*Some clients come to us already with an idea of the storyline, so it depends on your possibilities.
The result?
A breathtaking performance in the sky that leaves the audience in awe.

We’re committed to what we create and believe in sharing the journey behind it.
This week, we had the opportunity to participate in a workshop at the Dekoratīvās mākslas un dizaina muzejs (Latvia Museum of Decorative Arts and Design), and meet the educators and students who are curious to learn more about the drone art and shows.
Basemotion founder, Armands Blumbergs, shared the story of Basemotion—how it all began, what goes into creating drone shows, the challenges, the innovations driving us forward, and our vision for the future.
Later, Basemotion 3D artist Dags Eris offered a closer look at the show development process, walking the audience through each step—from the first spark of an idea to its full realization.
In the second part of the workshop, we invited participants to craft their own stories using Latvian signs and symbols.
The results were thoughtful, creative, and full of meaning.
We hope to have the chance to bring some of them to life as future drone shows.
We will continue sharing our experience because such events help bridge industries, connect ideas and people, and pave the way for innovative ideas where art and technology meet.
