Can strength and cardio improve together?
A recent meta-analysis in the Journal of Sports Sciences found that concurrent resistance + endurance training did not meaningfully reduce VO₂max improvements overall compared with endurance training alone.
The important nuance: problems may arise when adding resistance training leads to too much endurance work being removed. In other words, the issue may be insufficient aerobic stimulus — not the combination itself.
For MobiGym, this supports a simple principle:
Strength and cardiovascular fitness do not need to compete.
They can be trained together — provided each receives an effective dose.
That is particularly relevant for adults 40+, where preserving muscle strength and cardiorespiratory fitness are both central to long-term healthspan.

Progress in healthy ageing is rarely captured by one number.
A 12-week supervised resistance-training study in 126 healthy older adults found substantial improvements in functional performance, while muscle capacity, body composition, pain and quality of life changed differently across individuals. Only 46% met the study’s multidomain responder criteria — and some people labelled “non-responders” still improved functional performance.
The practical message: adaptation is asynchronous. Different domains improve at different rates.
That is why MobiGym tracks progress across multiple healthspan measures rather than relying only on body composition, strength or any single score. The goal is to understand the full picture, identify the next priority, and personalize the intervention.

After 50, should you really be lifting light?
A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis compared high-intensity resistance training (≥70% of 1RM) with low-to-moderate intensity training in adults aged 50+.
Across 18 randomized controlled trials involving 1,283 participants, higher-intensity training produced greater improvements in lower-body strength, particularly for leg press and leg extension.
What it did not clearly show was an added advantage for bone mineral density, falls, or adverse events.
The practical message is important:
Age alone is not a reason to avoid progressive loading.
That does not mean everyone over 50 should immediately lift heavy. The right load still depends on training history, technique, health status, confidence, and individual capacity.
At MobiGym, we do not prescribe lighter training simply because of chronological age.
We assess the person, establish the baseline, progressively apply the right dose, and reassess what actually changed.
ASSESS → INTERPRET → PRIORITIZE → INTERVENE → REASSESS ↻
Train progressively. Not cautiously by default.

Your VO₂max today matters. But what happens to it over time may matter even more.
A 2026 UK Biobank analysis followed 11,530 adults aged 40–73 who completed two cardiorespiratory fitness assessments, with cardiovascular outcomes tracked over a median of 14 years.
The important finding was not simply that fitter people had lower cardiovascular risk.
It was that the direction of change mattered too.
Annual improvements in estimated VO₂max were associated with lower risk of incident cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular mortality, while declining fitness tracked higher future risk.
This was an observational study, so it does not prove that improving VO₂max alone caused the reduction in risk. But it reinforces an important principle:
Fitness is not just a score. It is a trajectory.
At MobiGym, we establish a baseline, apply the appropriate training stimulus, and reassess using repeatable protocols to understand whether physical capacity is actually improving.

Build reserve before you need it.
A long-term study followed 18,670 initially healthy adults, with a median age of 49, for a median of 26 years.
Higher cardiorespiratory fitness in midlife was associated with a lower burden of chronic conditions later in life.
That does not mean fitness alone caused the difference. But it reinforces an important idea for healthy ageing:
What you build in midlife may shape the reserve you carry forward.
At MobiGym, we focus on building and tracking that reserve across strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscle, body composition and function.
The aim is not to wait until decline becomes obvious.
It is to measure where you are now, identify what matters most next, and improve it while you still feel capable.

Being fit after 40 isn’t one number.
The American College of Sports Medicine has updated its model of physical fitness around five interconnected components:
• Cardiorespiratory fitness
• Muscular fitness
• Body composition
• Neuromotor fitness
• Flexibility
The important point is not that everyone needs five separate workouts.
It is that “fitness” is broader than strength or cardio alone — and the priority should depend on the individual.
That fits closely with the MobiGym approach:
ASSESS → INTERPRET → PRIORITIZE → INTERVENE → REASSESS ↻
We measure broadly, identify what matters most next, and apply the right dose rather than trying to optimize everything at once.

🔴 What is photobiomodulation, actually?
Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light. But “red light” is not one single intervention — wavelength, dose, distance, exposure time and the area being targeted can all matter.
That is also why different devices serve different purposes.
• Targeted wearables, such as caps and face masks, are designed for more localised applications.
• Larger panels can expose a broader area of the body and may suit different recovery or wellbeing goals.
At MobiGym, we do not treat PBM as one-size-fits-all. We help you understand the available options and identify the approach that best fits your goals, needs and routine.
Curious about which PBM option could fit you?
