🕯️ On 14 June, Lithuania remembers the victims of Soviet mass deportations.

This was a deliberate crime of the Soviet totalitarian regime. Thousands of Lithuanian citizens were taken from their homes, separated from their families and deported to Siberia and the Far North.

In just a few days in June 1941, around 17,000 people were forced into cattle wagons and sent into exile. Men were sent to labour camps. Women, children and the elderly were deported to remote settlements, where hunger, disease and brutal conditions became part of daily life.

Many did not survive. Many never returned to Lithuania.

Yet amid suffering and loss, hope endured. Hope gave strength to those who faced exile, preserved their dignity in the harshest conditions, and sustained their dream of one day returning home.

What does A+ mean for Lithuania? 🇱🇹

Fitch Ratings has upgraded Lithuania’s credit rating to A+ with a stable outlook.

📈 This is an important signal of international confidence in Lithuania’s economy, public finances and long-term resilience.

🛡️ The upgraded rating reflects Lithuania’s ability to maintain growth, manage debt responsibly and remain stable despite external pressures and geopolitical uncertainty.

💼 For investors, businesses and international partners, the message is clear: Lithuania is a trusted, reliable and forward-looking economy.

💡 It is also a recognition of the country’s broader economic progress - from disciplined fiscal policy to the growth of high-value sectors, innovation and digital services.

☀️ A new Euronews article highlights Lithuania’s rapid shift from energy dependence to energy resilience - powered by solar, wind and a clear national ambition.

⚡ In just five years, renewable electricity grew from 15% to 50% of Lithuania’s domestic consumption. Solar capacity increased from 225 MW to 3,284 MW, while wind power grew from 623 MW to 2,535 MW. In April, solar and wind covered 84% of Lithuania’s electricity demand.

🇱🇹 By producing more clean energy at home, Lithuania is reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, strengthening resilience and showing how a crisis can become an opportunity.

As Euronews notes, Lithuania is now being recognised for one of the fastest renewable electricity transformations in the EU - with the ambition to cover domestic electricity consumption with 100% renewable power by 2028 and move towards becoming a net exporter of clean electricity.

This is more than a green transition. It is a security story.
