Roma Integration House aims to represent Roma minority, especially Roma women all over the Lithuania. It has members in Vilnius and Šiauliai.
Organization was founded as a follow up of National Institute for Social Integration (NSII) project “Travelling Social Cuisine”. RIH aims to represent Roma minority, especially Roma women all over Lithuania. In particular, organization seeks to address the challenges experienced by Roma women – education and care of children, house hold, unemployment. Moreover, RIH empowers Roma women by giving th
em voice within the Lithuanian society and Roma community. Organization represents Roma issues in governmental institutions. RIH was a partner for Vilnius University of Applied Sciences in organizing the International Week "Pedagogues against Discrimination" in 2012, April. RIH is active in Roma rights advocacy and together with other NGOs has submitted Resolution on the National Roma Integration plan for the Ministry of Culture. Later on RIH has been invited to discuss the proposals for the governmental strategy of Roma integration from 2014 on. RIH has also been invited by European Commission Office in Lithuania to the round-table discussion “Roma in European Union and in Lithuania” on July 11, 2012. RIH negotiates with Žagarė town institutions and Joniškis municipality for the better inclusion of local Roma community. As a result, one of RIH members started to work as a pre-school educator within the local kindergarden which was previously providing services exclusively for children with Lithuanian ethnic origin. Another member of Roma Integration House works as a teacher assistant in the one of Vilnius schools with large numbers of Roma pupils.
