How ironic that just a day or two after the International Labour Conference adopted a Convention on Decent Work for the Platform Economy, this happens right before our eyes. These gentlemen are delivery guys working for a certain company. One of them was involved in an accident, hit by a taxi as he was going about his tasks. The questions that immediately came to mind are: do these guys enjoy any labour rights? are they provided with protective clothing? I saw one helmet there, I wasn't sure if there were other, whether the guy who was hit had a helmet on but generally they cycle around town with minimal protective clothing if any. It is Winter, what type of clothing do they wear to guard against the harsh Lesotho winter conditions and who should ensure that they have them? Now that an accident has happened, is there Workmen's Compensation cover? God forbid, what would happen if he died in that accident just like the one that occurred at Khubetsoana a few days back where a life was lost or got permanently disabled? Tharollo Holdings will host the 2nd HR and Labour Law Summit in November 2026, on the theme The Future of Work: Enabling Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI), Decent Work and Institutional Readiness. The legal implications of the Gig and Platform Economies will take centre stage as technological and innovative ways of creating employment. The Convention that has just been adopted on Decent Work in the Platform Economy, a milestone indeed, will be shared with Basotho. We need to understand that it is not just that there are no jobs and people are trying to make a living; they are workers, and they deserve to have their labour rights protected too.

What an incredible experience it was for Tharollo Holdings to be part of the Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) 50th Anniversary Jubilee Business Exhibition! We were honoured to showcase our diverse range of services through our exhibition stall and to have the opportunity to deliver a brief presentation highlighting how Tharollo Holdings continues to provide innovative business solutions, governance support, labour law advisory services, occupational health and safety expertise, and strategic business development services.
This platform reinforced one of our core objectives: building meaningful collaborations with business pioneers, industry leaders, and organisations that are driving Lesotho's economic growth. The engagements, conversations, and connections made throughout the exhibition have opened exciting opportunities for partnerships that will contribute to sustainable business development across the country.
We are especially humbled and grateful for the recognition received during the Gala Dinner, where the Master of Ceremonies acknowledged Tharollo Holdings as a leading organisation actively unpacking and educating stakeholders on the new Labour Legislation and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act in Lesotho. This recognition is a testament to our team's dedication to empowering employers, employees, and organisations with practical knowledge that promotes compliance, safer workplaces, and stronger labour relations. As we celebrate this milestone, we are proud to see our work gaining traction across the country and making a meaningful impact in both the public and private sectors.
