MOTORISTS PANIC AS DIESEL RUNS OUT
MASERU -- Some motorists have raised a concern over diesel shortage, which has been reported to have run out at some filling stations in Maseru.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, one Mr. Khutlang Mokhothu said he went to three different fuel stations in Maseru to fill diesel but was told it had finished, with suppliers showing uncertainty on when it would be available.
He said this raises an alarming concern based on ongoing war in the Middle East even though the government has allayed their fears.
"We don't want to experience what happened during COVID-19 although we've been warned against fuel panic buying," he said.
In an interview with the Agency, Petroleum Fund Public Relations Officer Mr. Rorisang Mahlo urged motorists to remain calm as nothing changed from the statement released earlier by the government through the Ministry of Energy, regarding alleged fuel shortage due to the Middle East war.
Meanwhile in its statement, the Ministry of Energy indicated that fuel supply remains stable currently but will remain alert and inform the nation once irregularities in fuel supply are identified.
On the other hand, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Rets'elisitsoe Matlanyane earlier in the National Assembly assured the nation that the government will address the economic impacts of ongoing middle east war in particular, fuel whenever there is need regardless of the adoption of the Appropriation (2026/2027) Bill, 2026.
