A Maseru man is demanding M1.5 million in damages from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO), alleging that six of its investigators subjected him to brutal torture during two interrogations before releasing him without ever charging him with any offence.

FORMER Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) commissioner, Tšoeu Petlane, has finally broken his silence over the horrific dog attack that left 12-year-old ‘Nete Leotlela fighting for his life, saying he has deliberately stayed away from the public spotlight to allow the boy’s recovery to remain the central focus.

Mr Petlane’s comments come almost three weeks after the 6 July attack at his home, where his five German Shepherds mauled the youngster, leaving him with catastrophic facial injuries that required emergency specialist treatment in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

A Chinese businessman is facing a M2 million damages claim after two of his employees allegedly launched a brutal attack on a Maseru man, leaving him permanently blind in one eye and with life-changing injuries.

Chen Hai Ling, the owner of Vasco Da Gama Off Sales near Sefika Complex in Maseru, has been sued alongside his former employees, Thato Pakela and Kompi Tokonyane, over an alleged assault that occurred on 25 February 2023.

A 48-year-old man from Ha Lepapa in the Kolonyama Constituency, Leribe, who was awaiting trial for allegedly orchestrating the contract killing of his neighbour, was allegedly beaten and burned to death by an angry mob shortly after being released on bail.

The deceased, Mosala Rathaba, and his 38-year-old wife, ‘Matsoakae Rathaba, had appeared before the Leribe Magistrates’ Court on charges of hiring a hitman to murder their 57-year-old neighbour. The couple was arrested on 16 and 17 April 2026 and was initially remanded in custody before being granted bail pending trial.

Jealous lover jailed 25 years for brutal 26-stab murder - Sunday Express 28/07/2026

A 38-year-old Mokhotlong man, Liphapang Rasethuntša, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the brutal murder of his lover after pleading guilty to stabbing her 26 times in a jealous rage.

Acting Justice Tšooana Lesaoana handed down the sentence on Friday after Rasethuntša admitted to murdering 36-year-old Mahlophang Selisi of Salang Village, Mokhotlong. Ms Selisi was fatally attacked near her home on the evening of 17 November 2024.

THE bitter multimillion-maloti battle over the Mafatle family business empire is far from over after prominent lawyer Advocate Tiisetso Sello-Mafatle escalated the dispute to the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn a Commercial Court ruling that left her husband, businessman Teboho Mafatle, in control of seven jointly owned companies.

In her appeal, Adv Sello-Mafatle argues that Commercial Court Judge Moneuoa Kopo committed serious legal errors when he dismissed her application for judicial management of the companies.

A Mokhotlong street vendor has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment after the High Court found him guilty of murdering another man during a drunken dispute over traditional Sesotho music.

Acting Justice Tšooana Lesaoana, sitting in the High Court in Leribe, convicted Lebohang Kao of murdering Lebohang Mabusetsa in 2024, finding that although he did not have a direct intention to kill, he was guilty of murder with indirect intent.
