Over the past four years, Sesotho Media & Development (SM&D) with the financial support of European Union in Lesotho embarked on a meaningful journey to promote accountability and human rights. SM&D trained over 250 police officers, along with media professionals and community leaders, empowering them to better fulfill their roles as advocates for justice and human dignity.

This project would not have been possible without the invaluable partnership of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service , Ministry of Justice amd Law and the National University of Lesotho . Through collaboration and commitment, we’ve made strides toward a more just and accountable society.

As this project comes to a close, we celebrate the progress made and remain inspired by the work still ahead. Together, we can continue to champion the principles of justice and human rights.

🚨Community Gathering in Quthing🚨

Today, we conducted a session in the Tsatsane community of Quthing, focusing on access to justice with a particular emphasis on restorative justice. The community received education on the various entities responsible for delivering justice in Lesotho, clarifying that the police are not the primary providers of justice. We also outlined the specific types of cases that should be reported to either the police or the chief.

Furthermore, participants were informed about the restorative justice process, its significance, the distinctions between it and the traditional criminal justice system, and the circumstances under which parties might elect to pursue this alternative approach.
