Ningaloo Reef Resort redevelopment with Terraforce

Exciting news! Terraforce Retaining Walls® and The Block Makers are proud to supply the L11 round face blocks to the impressive redevelopment of Ningaloo Reef Resort by RAC WA in Coral Bay, Western Australia!

The Terraforce® retaining walls will provide essential soil stabilization and hard landscaping for this major transformation. RAC WA is investing over $70 million in this iconic WA destination, focusing on responsible and sustainable development.

Building Solid Foundations for Education with Terraforce®

We're thrilled to showcase the Terraforce Retaining Walls round face retaining walls at the new Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) in Paarl, South Africa, that were completed November 2024. The project, initiated in October 2024, overcame significant site challenges with severe height differences requiring cut slopes to create suitable platforms for the planned buildings.

The Terraforce® L12 round face finish blocks were selected by The Grape Company, under the umbrella of The Grape Community, a non-profit organisation that supports and empowers community projects. This choice offers both practical benefits and aesthetic appeal, with the scalloped finish creating a visually pleasing effect while remaining budget-friendly and plantable to soften the overall appearance with greenery.

Beyond their visual appeal, the Terraforce® retaining walls – expertly installed by Terraforce recommended contractor LFC Construction. - provide crucial soil stabilisation and loadbearing support for the road above, parking area, and essential services including manholes and pipes.

Looking back at this impressive 2016 Terraforce Retaining Walls project for the Military Parade Grounds in Manzini! When traditional geo-textile solutions wouldn't work due to space constraints, parastatal Millennium Projects turned to EFS Construction, Terraforce licensed manufacturer, Swaziland, for a Terraforce® block solution.

Construction on the R2.7million retaining wall contract started April 2016 and was completed in September 2016. In total two walls were installed, an 81m and 110m wall along the back and sides of the parade grounds, with a maximum wall height of 6m. The longest and highest wall was constructed with a front layer of blocks filled with reinforced concrete and Y12 rebar to the top, backed by a second, unreinforced layer 3m high only. The backfill behind each wall consists of crusher stone.

At the edge of the grounds the retaining wall behind the ablution building curves around to end, following the natural contour of the site. Says Michael Toepfer, EFS Construction: “I anticipated that the inevitable foot-traffic at that location would cause serious erosion control issues and decided to add a cost-effective stairway made entirely of Terracrete™ and Terraforce® blocks to the design. The steps start with two layers of Terraforce, stacked vertically, one below ground, one above and filled with gravel to act as a foundation.

“This was followed by a level base, 700mm wide, of two rows of Terracrete™. The front row, filled with gravel to function as tread, the second row filled with concrete to act as foundation for the next Terraforce riser. Half of this Terraforce® filled with concrete to bind with the foundation block, the top half filled with gravel as part of the next tread.”
