NewSETA-Lesotho together with Mind of steel organisation Lesotho and Audacious leaders network is currently participating in the Open Budget Survey 2025 National results briefing for multi stakeholders by the ministry of finance and development planning Lesotho.

The on going briefing brings together stakeholders to engage with the open budget survey 2025 results and discuss strengthening budget transparency, public participation and accountability in Lesotho.

We are proud to be part of this important conversation advancing open budgets, informed citizens and accountable governance.

Strengthening Youth Voices for active citizenship

Newseta-Lesotho held a successful civic engagement toolkit testing and validation forum with stakeholders from across Maputsoe.

The forum brought together representatives from District Administrator's office, Maputsoe Urban Council, Judiciary, Churches, LMPS- Child and Gender Protection Unit(CGPU), Maputsoe Filter clinic(Adolescent corner), Thato Eahao FM and teachers from Careerdue Academy high school, Letlotlo International high school, Maboee High school, St boniface High School and St Michael's High school.

The forum provided a platform for stakeholders to review, challenge and provide constructive feedback on the toolkit 's key modules ensuring that it is relevant, practical, inclusive and responsive to realities faced by young people.

We recognise a fundamental truth that stakeholders know better and are working directly with communities as a result understand realities, barriers and opportunities at the grassroots level. The valuable insights from stakeholders will therefore help refine and strengthen the toolkit before it's wider rollout through youth engagement activities.

A heartfelt thank you to all stakeholders for their time, expertise and commitment to strengthening active youth participation, accountable governance and stronger communities.

Together we are building a generation of informed, empowered and active young citizens.

Newseta-Lesotho team celebrated International Youth Day in a truly special way alongside the differently abled children of Ferrando Resource Centre Special School in Hanyenye Maputsoe.

It was a memorable day filled with laughter, singing, dancing, playing and beautiful moments of connection. The smiles on the children's faces reminded us that inclusion is not just about creating opportunities, it is about being present, sharing joy and ensuring that every young person feels valued and included.

We believe that every young person matters, every young voice counts and disability should never be a barrier to participation, dignity and belonging.

We sincerely appreciates the EU, UNICEF and IOM for their continued support for youth empowerment and inclusive development through the youth power hub. Together we are building a Lesotho where no young person is left behind.

Today Newseta-Lesotho joins young people across Lesotho and the world in celebrating International Youth Day.

Young people may come from different communities, backgrounds and circumstances, but they share common aspirations. A voice in decision-making, equal opportunities, peace, dignity, inclusion and accountable governance.

At NewSETA-Lesotho, we believe young people are not just beneficiaries of development, they are active citizens, innovators, leaders and partners in building stronger communities and a better Lesotho.

Let us create spaces where every young person can participate, be heard and contribute to positive change.

Active citizenship begins with action not words.

On the 17/7 /2026 Newseta-Lesotho staff, local youth and Mathata United Football Club came together in a spirit of service, unity and patriotism to engage in meaningful civic work through active citizenship.

The activity focused on clean up and rehabilitation of the community Well, a vital resource that sustains households in Hamathata Maputsoe.

Active citizenship demands more than participation. It requires responsibility, ownership and willingness to act for the collective good. Through this initiative youth demonstrated that nation building begins with small, deliberate acts of service in own communities.

The exercise was enriched by the presence of community elder who shared with the youth the history and significance of the Well. He spoke of the struggles endured to establish it. The role it played in sustaining families through the years. His story served as powerful reminder that service is the highest form of gratitude to those who came before us.

We commend every volunteer for their commitment for environmental stewardship, community service and building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Lesotho.

Together we inspire action. Together we build stronger communities.

NewSETA-Lesotho makes it's mark on the 2027/2028 National Pre-budget consultation.

What an incredible milestone for Newseta-Lesotho!

On 22 July 2026, our Director 'm'e Matseliso Mpheta had the honour of presenting Newseta-Lesotho's Digital civic budget tracker and citizen accountability platform innovation before participants at the National Pre-budget consultation held at Victory Hall in Maseru.

We are thrilled and humbled to share that following the presentations, 'm'e Mpheta was voted among the Top3 innovators out of 12 innovators who showcased their innovative solutions!

As a surprise recognition, she received amazing gifts from Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and FNB-Lesotho, including a certificate of appreciation, a laptop and a cheque. This recognition is not only a celebration of our innovation but a powerful affirmation of the importance of youth-led solutions, citizen participation, transparency and accountability in public financial management.

We extend our heart felt gratitude to the ministry of finance for creating this important platform and giving us the opportunity to contribute ideas towards shaping the 2027 /2028 National Budget.

We are equally grateful to our partners and supporters - Youth Power Hub, EU, UNICEF and IOM for investing in our organisation, nurturing our ideas and empowering us to transform innovative thinking into practical solutions.

This is more important than an award. It is a reminder that when young people are given a seat at the table, they can bring forward solutions that contribute to a more inclusive, transparent and accountable Lesotho.

The journey continues. The innovation continues. The impact continues.
