We concluded the second day webinar training which took place at iCampus Liberia on the following topics:

1: Branding Intellectual Property and Its Importance for Business Development

2: Training on Trademark Search Techniques and Strategies Using the Global Brand Database

3: Industrial Designs and their Usage

4: Searching Designs on the Global Design Database

A two-days webinar (hybrid) training jointly organized by the Liberia Intellectual Property Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization is currently on going for Liberia’s Technology and Innovation Support Center- Network on Patent, Trademark and Industrial Design Search.

Participants include among others; the University of Liberia, United Methodist University, Maretha School of Professional Studies, Starz University, Cecil University College, the Ministry of Health-through the Division of Alternative and Complementary Medicines.

The training which is being held at iCampus Liberia kicked off today May 30th and will run until the 31st of May.

Day One Topic:

1: The Intellectual Property System in Liberia: A Look at Patents, Trademark and Designs and their Protection

2: The Value of Patent Information for Technology and Innovation

3: Patent Search Techniques and Strategies Using PatentScope

World Book and Copyright Day, otherwise know as “International Day of the Book “ is celebrated on April 23rd every year to honor the legacy of authors and composers in a bid to promote reading, publishing and copywriting (according to United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization- UNESCO).

This is because renowned authors including Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega all died on April 23rd, as a result, UNESCO and the World Body organize annual events in order to commemorate the Book and Copyright Day.

Against this backdrop, COSOL and the Liberia Association of Writers (LAW) is jointly hosting an essay competition to honor the meaningful contributions of Liberian authors and composers they have made towards fostering the educational and cultural heritage of Liberia.

The Topic is: Copyright Licensing and Its Economic Importance for Wealth Creation

Cash prizes:

1st Prize Winner - 25,000 Liberian Dollars
2nd Winner - 15,000 Liberian Dollars
3rd Prize winner - 10,000 Liberian Dollars

On Friday January 19, 2023, the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO) signed
Institutional Agreements with three institutions for establishment of TISCs and Intellectual Property help services, thus resulting to six TISC host institutions for Intellectual Property development in Liberia.

Among the three newly signed institutions is the Ministry of Health, in particular the Division of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, the Maretha School of Professional Studies and Scholars Research Center.

We are pleased to welcome our new institutions into Liberia’s TISC network.

On October 24, 2022, representatives from our three host institutions: United Methodist University(UMU), Starz University and ICampus Liberia attended a one capacity building workshop on Intellectual Property (IP) Management and Technology Transfer of IP Rights.

In addition, presentation on TISC resources and the TISC-Staffs Certification program was made by representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)- a session where participants received in depth understanding of the objectives of the TISC program.

We are pleased to announce that on September 28, 2022, the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO) signed an MoU with the United Methodist University (UMU) for establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) on the university’s campuses.

The TISC program is intended to provide students, innovators and researchers access to technical and scientific journals and knowledge resources found in millions of databases in order to enhance academic activities and to unlock their innovative potentials.

The resources are also intended to facilitate institutional development for the host institution, and to further build capacities on Intellectual Property Rights.
