We interviewed a little girl last night, after she was beaten by her aunt. and this is what she said;

My name is Famatta. I’m 14 years old, and I come from B**g County. Right now, I live with my aunt in Necklay Town, Montserrado.

When my ma sends me here, she tells me it’s for a better life. She says my aunt will put me in school and help me. But from the day I enter her house, I feel like I don’t belong. My aunt treats me more like a maid than a niece. I cook, clean, carry water, take care of her children, all day, every day.

When I ask for lunch, she says, “You think I brought you here to enjoy? Better behave yourself.” I try to hold it in. I try to stay quiet. But every day, I feel like I’m suffocating in that house.

So I start sleeping out. Thinking it could be a solution. some nights I stay with people I barely know. Other nights, I just walk around until morning. I know it’s not safe, but I feel more free out there than in that house.

Then, I start taking small things( money ) from her bag, her lotion, sometimes a phone to sell. I know it’s wrong, but I feel like it’s the only way I can survive. The only way I can have something of my own.

Last week, she brings home 500 US dollars. I don’t know what it’s for, but I take it. I pack some clothes, and I run.

I go to 72nd community to a friend, thinking maybe I can disappear, maybe I can start over. I want to sell cold water or biscuits, find someone kind enough to let me stay. But last night, someone recognizes me and calls my aunt. They came and grab me.

Now I’m sitting here in shame. People are calling me a thief, a spoiled girl. But no one is asking why I ran. No one is asking what I’ve been through.

I don’t steal because I’m greedy. I steal because I feel trapped. I run because I’m tired of being treated like nothing. I just want peace. I just want to be free.

Maybe now, somebody will finally listen.

Disclaimer; she’s not the one in picture, we couldn’t take her picture because she was beating bad Keep following Digging Deeper

Woman, 35, arrested for Alleged Trafficking Five Girls in Grand Gedeh

By: Ben TC Brooks

Grand Gedeh detachment of the Liberia National Police has arrested and sent to the Zwedru Magisterial Court a 35 year-old women identified as Esther Bawo, for child custody interference and trafficking.

As reported by the Women and Children Section of the Liberia National Police, Esther was taken into custody on May 24, 2025, along with five girls at the Gbarbo Town checkpoint, located about one kilometer from Zwedru.

The girls involved include 20-year-old Grace Paye, whose mother is Betty Blagbey from the Cardwell Peace community; 14-year-old Blessing Kosugbah, who lives with her grandmother, Yah Tolakeh; 16-year-old Fatumata Sheriff from Busseh Quarter; and two additional girls, Kadiatu Bah, 16, and Princess Way, 18, both also from Busseh Quarter.

In their testimonies, the girls stated that Esther deceived them by promising better job opportunities in Grand Gedeh County.

They reported that Esther had given them small pink tablets during their departure from Monrovia, which caused them to fall asleep.

Upon waking, they found themselves at the checkpoint in Grand Gedeh County. Esther, however, contended that her intention was to protect the girls from negative influences in their community.

Esther Bawo faces multiple charges, including child custody interference and trafficking, and is currently held in pre-trial detention at the National Palace of Corrections in Zwedru, awaiting her court date.

Meanwhile, the five girls are receiving care at the Medica Liberia Safe Home in Zwedru.

Former President George Weah Officially Endorses Liberia’s Historic Bid for a Permanent Seat on the UN Security Council

As Liberia wraps up its campaign for the permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, former President George Weah has officially endorsed the country’s bid, joining former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and many other Liberians in support of this endeavor.

During an interview on Spoon Talk on Thursday evening, former Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah revealed that President Weah has been a long-time advocate for Liberia's bid and has recently made his endorsement public.

Kemayah, who currently serves as Senior Advisor/Chief Envoy to former President Weah, stated that the former president has been actively engaging with other African leaders to rally support for Liberia's campaign. He noted that the initiative to pursue a Security Council seat at the United Nations began during Weah's administration, highlighting his commitment to ensuring Liberia secures the position.

With the vote scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Boakai administration is working to gather support from all stakeholders, including opposition leaders.

Liberia’s bid represents a bold effort to reassert Liberia's historic role on the global stage. Winning this seat would provide Liberia with access to high-level decision-making on critical issues concerning international peace and security.

Former Speaker Koffa declines Liberia Council of Churches award, says he’s ‘not worthy’…

MONROVIA – Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has respectfully declined an award from the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC), stating that he does not deem himself worthy of such an honor at this time.

The Council had extended an invitation to Koffa to receive a prestigious accolade—“Advocate for Justice and the Rule of Law”—during its Bishop George D. Brown Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2025. The event is part of the Council’s 35th General Assembly, currently taking place at the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary campus in Paynesville.

When contacted by The Liberian Investigator, the Grand Kru County Representative expressed his appreciation for the recognition but declined the offer. “I do not deem myself worthy of such an award,” Koffa said, without elaborating.

In contrast, the Council is moving ahead with its plan to honor current House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon with a “Statesmanship Award” during the same induction ceremony. Speaker Koon, according to the LCC, is being recognized for his contributions to peacebuilding, governance, and national development during his tenure.
