This Is An Original Print – Hand-Carved And Handprinted – Cat.

I begin every print with a hand drawn sketch. This is then transferred onto a block of mahogany wood. I hand carve each block individually until I am happy with the image. Once the block is ready for printing I ink and print the block by hand. Each print is individually hand-printed using a baren. Every woodcut is therefore completely unique and may vary slightly from the photo above. You can request a zoom call to choose your final print. All prints are numbered and signed. This is the 1st edition.

I aim to create the best quality prints with the most sustainable materials possible. I use mahogany wood to create the block ready for printing. These are long life blocks allowing for multiple use and less waste. This print is made using Hawthorn printmakers ink, a non skin vegetable oil based, high quality pigment printmaking ink.
All prints are printed onto A4 (210x297mm) 96g, off-white Hahnemühle quality paper.

The listing is for an unframed lino print – it will be sent in a card board backed envelope ready to gift or frame.

"Song for St Ives", linocut by Jeremy James from the UK.

As part of my exhibition at The Hepworth Wakefield which opens today I am pleased to present this new print made particularly for this show- 'Song for St Ives'.
Barbara Hepworth lived and worked for much of her life in St Ives in Cornwall. It is possible to visit her house and beautiful garden in this coastal town. The latter is particularly beautiful, with her sculptures placed amongst the generous planting. St Ives can be very busy in the summer in particular, but this small green space is a real oasis away from the crowds. Go and visit, and sit, and you may be lucky enough to enjoy the song of a blackbird!

Before the selfie there was the self-portrait ✏

Rembrandt was a highly experimental printmaker, and often reworked his plates through many versions, which are known as ‘states’.

He developed this early self-portrait through fourteen states, and only added his signature in this final state 🖼

While Rembrandt made just over 300 prints in his lifetime, there are close to 1,000 impressions for comparison and study in the Museum, forming one of the most important collections of Rembrandt’s prints in the world.
