Basics of selecting load cables and breakers:

1. Calculate the maximum load in kW / kVA
2. Calculate the maximum load current
3. Get the cable catalog from your preferred manufacturer and select a sufficient cable size (derating for grouping, temperature and method of installation need to be applied).
4. Calculate the voltage drop of the selected cable, when maximum load current is running, and check whether the percentage voltage drop is within the allowable limits.
5. Breaker capacity should be higher than the maximum load current, but most importantly, breaker capacity should be less than the derated Current Carrying Capacity of the cable!
BREAKERS ARE FOR CABLE PROTECTION, not for overload protection!
