On March 5, 2026, NRC, in collaboration with Parley Lanka Team , and with the valuable support of National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) volunteers, carried out a beach cleanup at Pasaiyoor Fishing Harbour.

Together, the team successfully collected 85 kg of recyclable and non-recyclable plastic waste, preventing it from entering the ocean and harming marine life. 🌍🐠

Every cleanup is a reminder that collective action can protect our oceans and coastal ecosystems. A big thank you to all volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making our shores cleaner.

Through the Project BLUECAP, NRC has deployed 100 drop-off bins across 15 districts, enabling citizens and tourists to responsibly dispose of their plastic waste and prevent it from entering the environment.

Please use our bins to drop off your solid plastic and aluminium waste. Your small action helps uplift waste collectors, support MRF operations, add value to post-consumer plastics, and protect nature while creating better lives for all living beings.

🐶💔 𝑨 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑩𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑵𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒚 𝑻𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒂 𝑷𝒐𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝒐𝒈'𝒔 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒎

A few days ago in Jaffna, a helpless dog was found wandering with its head trapped inside a discarded plastic bottle. What may have seemed like “just waste” to someone became a life-threatening situation for a poor dog.

Unable to eat, drink, or see properly, he struggled silently, all because of irresponsible plastic disposal.

Thankfully, kind villagers stepped in and rescued him in time. ❤️

This is a reminder that plastic waste does not disappear. It stays in our environment, harming wildlife, street animals, and our communities.

Every bottle thrown carelessly can become a trap.
Every piece of plastic mismanaged can cause suffering.

One year ago, at Mirissa Harbour, Matara, a powerful collaboration came together to protect our ocean. With the strong support of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the dedicated harbour community, we successfully carried out a large-scale cleanup that made a real difference.

💪 Together, we collected 191 kg of waste plastics, preventing them from entering the ocean and causing long-term harm to marine life. More importantly, this effort strengthened community ownership and highlighted how collective action can drive real environmental change.

🌱 And this is just the beginning.
Building on the success of last year, we are excited to replicate this cleanup again this year, with even stronger collaboration and wider community participation.

We are thrilled to announce the implementation of two major initiatives aimed at protecting our vital ecosystems. At the heart of this effort is the "Catalysing Actions to Close the Plastic Loop" project—a critical step toward a waste-free future.

This project provides technical assistance to the Clean Sri Lanka initiative under the PLEASE project, which is implemented by SACEP and supported by the World Bank.

Our Mullaitivu MRF has successfully launched its waste recovery campaign, recovering large volumes of plastic waste from dump yards, bins, collection bags, and other key collection points.

The recovered materials were sorted and delivered to local recyclers, supporting responsible recycling and reducing environmental pollution.

🌊 Beach Clean-Up at Chaddy Beach, Jaffna ♻️

NRC, together with the amazing MESO volunteers, conducted a beach clean-up at Chaddy Beach, Jaffna, recovering 29 kg of plastic and polythene waste to help preserve the beach’s natural beauty.

Beyond clean-ups, we are actively working to identify the root causes of pollution and develop long-term solutions. We invite passionate volunteers to join us in restoring Chaddy Beach to its natural habitat and protecting it for future generations.
