Pollen was created in 2014 by Kanishka Perera as a design studio and consultancy. We love to design and we love to make.

It’s rarely a straight line.
We sketch, we test, we talk, we shift.
Design isn’t just what we build — it’s how we get there.

Not every rule is worth keeping.
Over time, some ideas just stopped making sense — to us, to our process, to the way people really live and use space.
Here are a few design myths we’ve outgrown (and why that’s okay).

What have you let go of lately?
We’d love to hear yours.

Layards Wharf isn’t just a dining space — it’s a conversation between past and present, local and global, memories and possibilities.

Designed by Pollen Studio for Food Studio, set within Havelock City’s industrial heritage, the space honours the old weaving mills and canal routes — while supporting a modern, cashless, communal life.

From heritage-led textures to six distinct food corners, it’s architecture that tastes as good as it feels.

A space that lets the product speak — clean lines, clear light, and just enough sweetness.

Why 'Pollen'?

Because ideas don’t always arrive fully formed. Sometimes they drift in quietly - carried by conversation, chance, or curiosity.

Pollen felt like the right word for that. Small but full of potential.
Just like good design.

This is where it usually begins.

Not perfect. Not polished. Just a way to think out loud with a pencil.
Some of these ideas go nowhere. Some become buildings.

All of them matter.

At Pollen, we don’t just create – we think with our hands, play with ideas, and refine until the magic happen.

Because making is how we see the world. 🌱✨

Design isn’t a monologue.
It’s a conversation — with people, with places, with possibilities. We think the best spaces come from listening first, then shaping what we hear.

Because good design doesn’t just say something — it asks something.
What is your space trying to tell you?

Not everything we believe needs to be said out loud — some values are felt in the way we work, the choices we make, and the spaces we shape. These ideas guide
us quietly but fully, from first sketch to final detail.
