The Eastern RDMC successfully conducted a seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Resilience at the Eastern University, Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Fellowship of Christian University Students. 🌍🌱

The session created an important platform to raise awareness among university students on climate challenges, disaster preparedness, resilience building, and the role of youth in creating sustainable communities.

Grateful to all participants and organizers who contributed to making this programme meaningful and impactful. Together, we can build a safer and climate-resilient future for Sri Lanka.

🌿✨ Inspiring Young Minds for Climate Action ✨🌿

The Programme of Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Resilience (DRR & CR) of the National Christian Council of Sri Lanka successfully organized a mangrove field visit for the students of Hartley College, Jaffna, to the Mandaitheevu mangrove ecosystem. 🌱🌍

This educational exposure visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the critical role mangroves play in climate change mitigation and adaptation, coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem sustainability.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the students of the Department of Botany, University of Jaffna, for their valuable support in demonstrating the ecological characteristics and environmental importance of mangroves in an interactive and inspiring manner. 👏🌿

Special thanks to the Future Environmental Club for their excellent coordination and contribution in making this initiative meaningful and successful. 🤝💚

Through such initiatives, the Programme of DRR & CR continues its commitment to empowering youth with environmental knowledge and encouraging collective action towards a more resilient and sustainable future. 🌏✨

The Programme of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience of the National Christian Council of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a 3-day Residential Inter-Religious Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Training Programme from 22nd to 24th May 2026 at CTC, Anuradhapura.

The training brought together religious leaders and community representatives from diverse faith backgrounds to enhance their knowledge, skills, and cooperation in disaster preparedness, response, and climate resilience. Through learning, dialogue, and shared experiences, participants explored the vital role faith communities can play in building safer and more resilient societies.

The Vanni RDMC team successfully conducted a Polythene Reduction Awareness Campaign at Kilinochchi Market, taking a bold step toward a cleaner environment. 💚

Our dedicated volunteers positioned themselves at all three market entrances, engaging with the public by collecting polythene bags and replacing them with eco-friendly reusable alternatives. ♻️ Through direct interaction, we raised awareness on the daily impact of plastic use and encouraged sustainable habits.

All collected polythene bags were responsibly sent for recycling, ensuring they do not harm our environment. 🌿

Together, small actions can create big change—let’s say NO to polythene and YES to a greener future! ✨
