All of us try to add a definition to love, don't we? With time you realize that your definition changes; either tainted or improved. Rohan and Uma in EKTHARA ADARA KATHAVAK are two lovers turned spouses.

Their definition of love is questioned in this film while addressing the stereotypes we constantly try to shackle our men and women with. Can we really call our personalities black or white? Or are we a bit of both and a lot of gray?

As ambiguous as this description may, we are tackling a pressing issue a lot of families go through.

Thé Kahata, is a representation of the plight of most women in Sri Lanka who are ignorant about their own body and bodily needs. S*x is known as a largely patriarchal notion in Sri Lankan society, and therefore, quite a taboo topic for a woman to be knowledgeable about. Everything to do with it is hush, hush. For a woman, it is unethical to talk about or to seemingly know about it. To no longer be a virgin is probably worse than killing a man in Sri Lanka.

In this context, Thé Kahata strives to let the women know that it's okay to have needs, to have them fulfilled, to get to know your body better, and psychologically this actually frees a woman, and help them find inner confidence.

This of course is a simple creative effort in a narrative that needs to be discussed extensively in Sri Lanka. But we have to start somewhere.

The Director has been careful to portray the sexuality of a woman without nudity because she believes that nudity, unless it's extremely important for a film to tell its story, is not needed, and there are many other ways to go about it.
