හම්බන්තොට කාන්තාවන් දුම්කොළවලින් නිදහස් පරපුරක් වෙනුවෙන් කොළඹදී රැස්වෙයි

"දුම්කොළවලින් නිදහස් පරපුරක්" (To***co-Free Generation) යෝජිත වැඩපිළිවෙළ කඩිනමින් සම්මත කර නීතියක් බවට පත්කරන ලෙස ඉල්ලා සිටිමින්, 2026 සැප්තැම්බර් 25 වැනි දින, එනම් අද දින උදෑසන කාන්තාවන් සහ මව්වරුන් 300කට අධික පිරිසක් ජනාධිපති ලේකම් කාර්යාලය අසල රැස් වූහ.

හම්බන්තොට කාන්තා සංවර්ධන මහා සංගමය (WDF) විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද මෙම රැස්වීමට හම්බන්තොට දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ විවිධ ප්‍රදේශවල කාන්තාවන් සහභාගී වූහ. මෙම සාමකාමී විරෝධතාව පෙ.ව. 10.30 සිට ජනාධිපති ලේකම් කාර්යාලය අසල පැවැත්වුණු අතර, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දරුවන් දුම්කොළ වලින් ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම සඳහා 'දුම්කොළවලින් නිදහස් පරපුරක්' ප්‍රතිපත්තිය හඳුන්වා දීමට සහාය පළ කරමින් අත්සන් 15,000කට ආසන්න සංඛ්‍යාවක් සහිත ඉල්ලීමක් ජනාධිපතිතුමා වෙත ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළ මෙම ප්‍රතිපත්තිය හඳුන්වා දීම සඳහා පවතින දැඩි මහජන සහායත්, විශේෂයෙන්ම දුම්කොළ ව්‍යසනයෙන් තම දරුවන් ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීමට මව්වරුන් තුළ ඇති උනන්දුවත් ඔවුන්ගේ මෙම පැමිණීම මගින් පිළිබිඹු වේ. මෙම නීති සම්පාදනය ප්‍රමාද කිරීම අප රටේ පුරවැසියන්ගේ සෞඛ්‍යට සහ අනාගතයට බලපෑමක් ඇති කරන බව මෙම කණ්ඩායම පෙන්නුම් කර දුන්හ.

More than 300 women and mothers assembled outside the Presidential Secretariat on the morning of 25th September, 2026, demanding immediate government action for the introduction and implementation of the proposed 'To***co-Free Generation' (TFG) policy in the country.

Organized by the Hambantota Women’s Development Federation (WDF), this gathering brought together women from various parts of the Hambantota district. This peaceful demonstration was held outside the Presidential Secretariat from 10.30 a.m. and culminated in the delegation presenting a request to the President, with almost 10,000 signatures, showing their support to urge the introduction of the To***co-Free Generation policy, in order to safeguard the children of Sri Lanka from the harms of to***co use.

The women of the South gathered to make their voices heard on the enactment of the To***co Free Generation proposal. Their presence highlights the overwhelming public support for introducing the policy in Sri Lanka, especially the concern of mothers to protect their children from the to***co epidemic. They emphasized that stalling this legislation clearly impacts the health of the future of our nation. The expectations of the public are clear: approve the TFG policy and choose the health of the future generations of Sri Lanka over profits of the to***co industry.

ADIC was pleased to join as a resource organization at the Training of Trainers (TOT) for Regional Public Health Staff on Prevention and Early Identification of Substance Use, organized by the Directorate of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, held on 23 September 2026.

As part of the session, we shared our experience and best practices on Mobilizing Communities for Substance Use Prevention, with a particular focus on effective approaches to substance use prevention among youth and adolescents.

Following the TOT, the regional public health staff, including regional directors of health services and health education officers will train and empower other health personnel such as PHMs and PHIs to integrate effective strategies for substance use prevention in their daily work.

We appreciate the efforts of the Directorate of Mental Health in equipping health staff with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen substance use prevention in their day-to-day work.
