Samsung Galaxy Note 7: everything we think we know about the new curved screen phablet
We've already seen a long line of impressive phones and tablets launched this year from the major names, but there's a lot of life left in 2016 yet - and one of the biggest devices still to come ("biggest" in every sense of the word) is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
Last year's Note 5 was an impressive bit of kit but never properly made it to the UK.
With the Note 7, that will be changing.
Yes, note (geddit) there will be no Galaxy Note 6. That's so it doesn't seem old compared to the excellent Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge that were unveiled earlier this year. It seems the Note will now step up to the same number. Of course, there's also the small matter of the iPhone 7, too, that it doesn't want to be seen as old in comparison to.
It's actually the seventh Note handset anyway, as there was a Note Edge a couple of years back.
Galaxy Note 7 launch date
We've finally got a launch date for the Galaxy Note 7 and it's earlier than expected, with the event taking place on August 2 at 11am EDT, that's 4pm BST, 5pm CEST. There will be events in London and New York and we'll be present to bring you the latest.

Following an announcement that Grand Theft Auto V for PC will have a late release, Rockstar Games explains their decision.
A lot of gamers were disappointed last week when Rockstar Games announced that the release date for Grand Theft Auto V for PC has been pushed to 2015.
The PS4 and Xbox One editions will come out on November 18th, but PC gamers will have to wait an additional two months for their copies.
Despite slamming rumours of a delay or cancellation of the PC version earlier this month, Rockstar has confirmed that it will now be released on January 27, 2015.
In the comments section of its website, they wrote that “the game requires a little more development time in order to ensure that it is as amazing and polished as possible”.
Fans can look forward to increased draw distances, higher resolution gameplay, new activities, weapons and vehicles, denser traffic and a new foliage system.
There will also be enhanced weather effects and damage.
GTA V for PS3 and Xbox 360 was released last year, garnering over $1 billion in revenue in just 72 hours.
It has sold 34 million copies on PS3 and Xbox 360 alone.
By the looks of it, the game will be well worth the wait for its loyal fans.

Asus unveils Intel-powered smartphones and tablets
------------------------------------------------------------------
Asus has unveiled a bevy of new tablets powered by Intel’s latest processors over at the Computex show in Taiwan.
Asus took to Computex to unveil its new eight-inch Fonepad, the new Transformer Book V and the Transformer Book T300 Chi.
All three mobile gadgets were unveiled onstage by Asus chairman and CEO Jonney Shih.
Unsurprisingly, the Asus Fonepad is an update to the Taiwanese firm’s phablet. Although, at eight-inches, it stretches the concept of what a mobile is pretty much to its limits.
The eight-inch display has a not-so-stellar 1,280 by 800 resolution, while inside it comes with a 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor, support for dual-SIM cards and 3G connectivity.
Its two hybrid tablets however are much more impressive. The Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi comes with a super high resolution 2,560x1,440 pixel display but is only 7.3mm at its thickest. It also comes with 4G support and runs Windows 8.
The Transformer Book V (pronounced "Transformer Book five") is equally impressive. According to Shih, the reason why it is called the Book V is due to its ability to be used in five different modes.
They include as an Android phone, tablet or laptop, as well as a Windows tablet or laptop.
It comes with a 12.5-inch screen, 2GB RAM and up to 64GB internal storage. But don’t worry, you won’t be expected to use the full tablet as a phone – instead it comes with a 5-inch device that can be used to make calls and features LTE.
However, only a display model was on show at Computex, so we've got no idea when we'll actually be able to buy this versatile little piece of kit.
Crucially, all three devices are powered by Intel’s latest mobile processors – that’s right. There’s not a sign of an ARM-based processor in sight.

Aorus gaming laptop arrives with 3K screen
-------------------------------------------------------
The days of sitting down at a gaming laptop with a paltry Full HD resolution appear to be nearing their end...
That’s because Gigabyte has just unveiled a gaming laptop with a stonking 3K screen. Yup. That’s right – its AORUS X3 Plus comes with a 3,200 x 1,800 pixel display in a 13.9-inch screen.
The super high resolution display is only available in the top end model, mind.
Gigabyte’s gaming laptop looks the part too. It’s pretty thin for a gaming laptop, at 22.9mm, but at 1.87kg, it isn’t exactly light.
Packed into that frame though, you get a mousepad with a glass surface, backlit keyboard keys and five programmable keys on the far left of the laptop.
Specs-wise, it comes with Intel’s latest fourth generation Core i7 chip, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M graphics card, up to 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD card. It also comes with a MiniDisplay port that can output content at 4K – you know, if the screen itself isn’t good enough.
Speaking of the screen, it does come at a price. According to Gigabyte, you can expect only three to four hours of battery life during full-bore gaming sessions.
If you’re interested, the X3 Plus model will set you back $2,199 (£1,313). The cheaper X3 model will cost you $2,099 (£1,253), but will come with a (slightly) lower resolution 2,560x1440 display.
There’s no word on UK specific pricing – according to Gigabyte, we should find out in a couple of weeks.

Following previously leaked images of the Nokia Lumia 630, a hands-on video has now cropped up online ahead of the rumoured launch at Microsoft Build next week.
The video, courtesy of Coolxap, shows the improved Windows Phone UI as well as the new Action Centre notifications panel and its five megapixel camera interface.
The Nokia Lumia 630 is said to be packing a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 screen display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB RAM.
Although the hands-on video below looks at a black model, the Lumia 630 is expected to launch in a range of bright colours.
According to leaks, it will be the first Windows Phone with on screen buttons, rather than the physical ones found on most devices today.
Nokia has announced an event scheduled for April 2, the first day of Microsoft’s Build conference, where it’s expected to announce Windows Phone 8.1 devices such as the Lumia 630 and Lumia 930.
Rumours also suggest that other Windows Phone 8.1 devices will make an appearance such as Nokia Lumia 1820, Lumia 1525 and Lumia 1520 V

The report conducted by Crittercism found that whilst both the latest iOS and Android systems promise the fewest app crashes, Android edges into top place totaling fewer crashes overall.
The data unsurprisingly shows the older the OS, the less stable it is.
Android KitKat 4.4, Jelly Bean 4.3, and Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 all crash about 0.7 per cent of the time, while apps running on the dated Gingerbread 2.3 end in an error 1.7 per cent of the time.
Meanwhile Apple sees the fewest crashes on its latest iOS 7.1 - with the previous iOS 6 crashing 2.5 per cent of the time and iOS 7 at 2.1 per cent.
Ranked by devices, the iPhone 5 is Apple’s strongest candidate only crashing 1.7 per cent of the time although the Samsung Galaxy S4 takes lead with just a 0.9 per cent crash rate.
Crash rate by app ranges from 0.4 per cent among e-commerce, 0.6 for social and communication services and up to 4.4 per cent for gaming apps.
According to Crittercism, the smartphone industry is getting better with problems and errors becoming less likely on newer models.
"2014 will continue to be a huge year for mobile," the report said. "Businesses will sharpen their focus from web to mobile, and leverage apps to increase revenue and productivity."
