Vietjet has launched a new direct air service between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City, creating Sri Lanka’s first direct connection with Vietnam. The three times weekly service began on 18 August, with the inaugural Airbus A320 flight carrying 169 passengers to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Falcon E Racing, a University of Moratuwa student team, is competing in Formula Student Spain 2026 with its Falcon E2 electric race car. The team has developed electric Formula Student cars since 2017, unveiling Sri Lanka’s first in 2023 and placing 10th at Formula Bharat 2024.

Three Sri Lankan food companies have won recognition at the 2026 Great Taste Awards for products including cinnamon, black pepper, green tea and coconut whipping cream. Gralgo From Ceylon secured two-star and one-star awards, while Planet’s Finest and Ceylbee International were also recognised.

Formula 3 driver Yevan David has received Ceylon Motor Sports Club Colours for his achievements in international single-seater racing. The 19 year old became the first Sri Lankan to win the Euroformula Rookie Championship last year.
