One might assume life at Law College is all lectures, readings, and exams. And it is - most of the time. But every now and then, students choose a little fun and chaos over routine. LitFest is one of those moments.
LitFest ’26, hosted by the English Literary Association of Sri Lanka Law College, transformed Hulftsdorp with its Harry Potter inspired theme, “Chronicles of Hulftsdorp.” From competitive and slightly chaotic games (especially when chocolates and cupcakes were the REAL motivation 😋) and food stalls to mehendi, candles, and more - there was something for everyone.
Meanwhile, the finals of Crescendo, Grab the Mic, and Shutterbug brought out an impressive range of talent, while the seniors vs. 151st batch debate on “Situationships vs. Relationships” delivered wit, sarcasm, and a little too much painful relatability.
The day concluded with an address by Deputy Principal Shehan C. Perera and the awarding of certificates - closing off a day that balanced creativity, competition, and just the right amount of chaos.
LitFest’26 was, above all, a reminder that even at Law College, there’s always room for a little magic.

The first few months are arguably the best period one can experience after being selected for law college.
Among all the wonderful and joyful events that took place, the annual Freshers' Night stands out at the top.
"Aurum Aurora," the annual Freshers' Night for Batch 151 of Sri Lanka Law College, was held on March 27, 2026, at the college premises. The celebration was not limited to a single day, as the freshers were assigned a handful of tasks leading up to the big night. Designing and building the commemorative wall with batchmates was a wonderful experience. Most days prior to the event were occupied with dancing, singing, and drama practices, which kept the college atmosphere alive and vibrant.
The night commenced with the arrival of distinguished guests. The College Principal, Deputy Principal, and respected members of the Law Students’ Union welcomed Mr. Hemal Ranasinghe, Mr. Poojana Dandeniya, Ms. Michelle Dilhara, and Ms. Sadee Greenwood, who served as the panel of judges for the Batch King and Batch Queen contest.
"Aurum Aurora" rewrote history by being the first-ever night to officially reveal the wall. The Hulftsdorp skies were lit with fireworks as a tribute to everyone who contributed to its creation.
After the lighting of the oil lamp, a forgotten tradition was revived: the Freshers' Toast. The toast was led by Hirun Matheesha, the Social Welfare Secretary of the Law Students’ Union, as everyone raised their glasses to wish the freshers wellness and prosperity throughout their journey.
The most awaited event of "Aurum Aurora" was the Batch King and Queen contest. The gathering witnessed not only glamorous looks but also insightful performances from the contestants.
Next came the entertainment items. A soothing musical composition was followed by an energetic dance performance that moved everyone to stand and applaud the artistic talents of these future lawyers. The drama provided the closing notes, filling the hall with laughter and winning the hearts of the crowd. A special dance by the 150th Batch came as a surprise and a heartfelt gesture to welcome their juniors.
The night continued to be amazing, filled with delightful food and great company, while many emerged as winners from a raffle draw. Everyone danced throughout the night, and the event wrapped up with a traditional breakfast of delicious kiribath and lunumiris.
Though the night came to an end, the memories created will be remembered, shared, and valued by everyone lucky enough to be a part of it.

The Equality Initiative of Sri Lanka Law College, founded on 8th March 2016, marked a historic milestone upon entering its 10th year by organizing its first-ever Women’s Day celebration event themed *“Grace & Grit”* on 12th March 2026.
This event was particularly significant as it marked the first time Women’s Day was celebrated physically on such a large and comprehensive scale within the College, moving beyond the traditional digital framework of online commemorations. It stood as a bold and meaningful step toward recognizing the strength, achievements, and voices of women, while fostering a culture of equality within the College.
The event was structured in two phases.
The first phase comprised a series of competitions that showcased creativity, talent, and expression. These included drama, art, and poetry, providing students with a platform to share their perspectives on empowerment, equality, and the role of women in society. The competitions also set several historic precedents within the College:
* Drama Competition – University category
* Poetry Competition – Both school and university categories, conducted on an All-Island level in all three languages
* Art Competition – University category, conducted on an All-Island level
Notably, this was the first time in Sri Lanka Law College’s history that drama and art competitions were incorporated into a project framework by a student society.
The second phase, and the key highlight of the event, was the panel discussion, which was graced by a distinguished group of accomplished women who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields.
The panelists included:
Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne (Deputy Minister of Mass Media),
Ms. Rosy Senanayake (First Female Mayor of Colombo and Mrs. World 1984),
Ms. Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe (46th Solicitor General of Sri Lanka and former Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption),
Ms. Jayanthi Kuru-Uthumpala (the first Sri Lankan woman to summit Mount Everest and a women’s rights activist).
They shared their experiences and inspiring stories, offering valuable insights to the audience present at the event. The discussion was thoughtfully moderated by Nilupulee Gunathilake, a final-year law student at Sri Lanka Law College.
The panel discussion was followed by a prize-giving ceremony, where winners and participants of each respective category were awarded for their outstanding performances and contributions.
The participation of students reflected a strong sense of unity, inclusivity, and mutual respect within the Law College community. Participants were also appreciated with gifts generously provided by sponsors, further encouraging and recognizing their efforts.
One of the most remarkable moments of the event was a special segment dedicated to recognizing and appreciating female student leaders within the College. For the first time in the College’s history, all female Presidents, Secretaries, and holders of key positions across various student societies were invited to the stage and acknowledged individually for their hard work, leadership, and dedication. This moment symbolized unity, recognition, and the celebration of women’s contributions within the College.
Overall, this event stood as a testament to the Equality Initiative’s commitment to promoting equality and empowerment, while setting a new precedent for future generations within the College.

The Buddhist Brotherhood of Sri Lanka Law College successfully organized a Pirith Chanting Ceremony on the 13th of March, creating a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere for all who attended. The event was conducted with the intention of invoking blessings for the well-being, success, and harmony of the students and the institution as a whole.
The ceremony commenced with the presence of esteemed members of the Maha Sangha, whose chanting of Pirith filled the surroundings with calmness and devotion. Students from all religious backgrounds gathered with great reverence, reflecting a beautiful sense of unity, inclusivity, and mutual respect within the Law College community.
I had the privilege of serving as the compere for the event, guiding the proceedings and ensuring the smooth flow of the program. It was a truly enriching experience to contribute to such a meaningful occasion.
The event concluded on a note of peace and gratitude, leaving participants with a renewed sense of positivity and strength. This Pirith Chanting Ceremony stands as a reminder of the importance of spiritual practices in fostering inner peace and collective harmony within the academic community.
