Is Sapphire same as Diamond?

A sapphire is a mineral but it is not diamond even though a diamond is a mineral as well. They are both different types of minerals. Sapphires are a variety of the mineral corundum, which is an aluminum oxide. Various elements found within the sapphires cause different hues. For example, iron causes blue, titanium causes yellow, and chromium causes purple.

What Causes Emerald Color?

Emerald is a medium or darker green to blue-green beryl gemstone, in which the green color is derived from impurities of chromium (Cr), vanadium (V), or a combination of both. Before 1963, the definition of emerald was limited to beryls with chromium impurities, but the discovery in Brazil of a large deposit of beryl stones colored green by vanadium led to modification. According to the modern definition, the purity and saturation of the green color of a beryl is what defines an emerald.

Yellow sapphire is also available in a variety color saturations from yellow to orangy yellow and in light to dark tones, while orange sapphires have deep golden, to mandarin, and deep orange colors.

Yellow sapphires may be affected by other colors within the same gem and can range from light to dark greenish yellow to orangy yellow with weak to intense color saturation. The finest yellow sapphire is yellow to orangy yellow with vivid saturation.

Orange sapphires range from yellowish orange to reddish orange. The finest orange sapphires are strong, pure orange to red-orange with medium tone and vivid saturation.
