UMARA MUSIC STUDIO
Umara Sinhawansa, the international award-winning singer, songwriter and producer, launched Umara Music Studio (UMS), a modern academy that provides music and vocal training for aspiring singers of all ages as well as for special needs and autistic children.
Conveniently located at Pelawatte, Umara Music Studio focuses on all aspects of vocal training such as vocal flexibility, vocal projection, vocal range and pitching as well as breathing techniques and performance. The variety of courses offered by UMS are tailored to suit the requirements of the students and includes 6-month and 12-month Certificate courses that provide students with comprehensive training as well as shorter 1-month and 3-month courses. All sessions are conducted by Umara and are either individual or group sessions with a very limited number of students, thereby ensuring individual attention, greater interactivity and attention to detail. In addition to the courses, UMS organizes regular workshops that are catered towards aspiring singers from the wider population who are unable to attend the courses. Periodically, leading local singers, such as Umaria, Bathiya and Santhush and others, are brought in to conduct sessions with the students and provide them with valuable insights and a different perspective on how to nurture their talents. UMS also brings down leading singers from abroad to conduct similar sessions and share their global experiences in creating music. In terms of the special needs and autistic children, the UMS approach is to provide “music therapy” which utilizes music as a platform for parents to spend quality time with their children and to build the bond between them using various techniques.
UMS provides a host of modern facilities that makes it the ideal location for not only the students but also for the parents to spend time while their children attend training sessions. The entire premises are fully air-conditioned and includes facilities such as rehearsal rooms, changing rooms with showers, a waiting room, play area for children, refreshments and free Wi-Fi.
