Bruno Project St Lucia
Bruno Project - finding foreign homes for homeless dogs from St Lucia. Bruno was 39 lbs and dying slowly of hunger living by a restaurant just outside Castries.
The Bruno Project is a cooperative effort between what started with only two volunteers after a chance meeting of a starving dog on the island of St Lucia in the Caribbean. Vanessa was staying in a near by guest suite. The night before leaving St Lucia, Vanessa encountered Bruno, fed him her leftovers and bought him a second meal. She then came back to the guest house host, Doris, begging her to g

We've named her Timtam. A few days ago when Marva found this little girl chassing her outside her gym we had no idea of the gender. We don't really know anything about cats. We've never been able to take in any cats, well, we still aren't. Poor little thing is forced to live in a crate nearly 24/7 to keep her safe from the dogs attacking her. Poor little girl has a respiratory infection, eye infection, was covered in flees, and a huge belly full of worms. It will probably take weeks to get her healthy and free of parasites. Then we will need to find her a home. Money has been tight lately so if anyone can donate even just a little, please help. www.brunoproject.org/donate

Remember Grace? She was abandoned at the Fort with her three tiny puppies in February. She was abandoned in a horrible condition. They had bred her over and over again. She had no fur. She was obviously ignored and left to starve. Then she was dumped like garbage! She fought every hurtle that got in her way. She gained weight and grew a nice coat. She lived there alone for two months, alone, lonely. She truly just wanted to be with us at home, but we just couldn't take her. We visited daily. Because of breed restrictions it was difficult to ship her overseas. Canada was the easiest. On April 30th this sweet affectionate girl flew to Canada. She's been living such a great life! She's always had her eyes discharge "sleep". We had hoped it would clear up once she lived in a different environment. Seems it just got worse. Her eye lids are causing ulcers and she's in pain. She needs surgery! Unfortunately, we can't afford to help! We need your help! Please share her GoFundMe. Please donate!

A friend, a stray sympathizers, Marva called me in a panic at 7 a.m. A tiny kitten was following her. Well, making a long story short, we have another kitten. We really have nowhere safe to put it, so poor thing is in a crate un the back room. It cries constantly. It just wants attention and love. Poor little thing. My favorite canteen (best fried chicken on island) agreed to house it at the canteen but the canteen is right by the road so definitely not ideal. We really can't keep it crated too long. We need a home for it. Can someone local foster? We can't afford boarding at the moment. We will need to vaccinate, neuter, and treat for parasites. Can our supporters help? www.brunoproject.org/donate [email protected] by etransfer, PayPal, CashApp, at Venmo. No fee UK transfers also available.
Update on Gisèle🐶🦴🦮🐾
It just occurred to me that it's been about three months since this poor girl was dumped near the resort parking lot. It seems like it was just a couple weeks ago. So much has happened to this poor girl since then. The night she appeared, her and her five puppies were running scared all over the busy road that runs the length of the beach and airport runway. A kind lady stopped the traffic and escorted them toward the parking lot. Later that night, while trying to get water from the hotel pool a couple of the puppies fell in. Gisèle was really sad when we took her puppies to the shelter and left her behind. That was mid March. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1Gn5NWnAFg/ She eventually made friends and found herself fairly comfortable living on the resort's beach. We had her spayed fairly quickly. Some time in April someone, or something severely hurt poor Gisèle causing a dislocation to her back leg. We were told a horse kicked her. Since her injury, Gisèle has been increasingly terrified to go into the parking lot to the feeding point. She would refuse to leave the hotel beach. Thankfully, that part of her life is over. She's on her way to the US. Lucia Foundation, a 501c3 based out of northern Kentucky, will take over her care and hopefully, if funds are available, have her fixed up. If anyone near Cincinatti is available to foster this beautiful sweet, extreamely gentle and loving girl during her recovery, please contact SPCA Cincinnati. She will touch your heart the way she did ours.
🐾A Day in the Life🐾
Just another Sunday! I've seen this dog from afar a few times. I had finished my feedings by the hotel of Penelope's trio and Sassy. I went by looking in town for Roger, Eva, Muffins, and the unnamed young'en, stopped in at the supermarket, and was determined to go straight home. Then driving by I saw the dog again. I had nearly continued right past. I told myself that the poor guy would just continue suffering if I didn't stop and give him a NexGard. He looked so terrible, surely people wouldn't feed him, and he would just starve! I had turned around, hoping he was still there. I prepared a bowl of bucket food and a NexGard in my other hand. I didn't want to risk wasting it by adding it to the food without knowing it would be used properly. Locals watched. They always watch. The people here are generally nice to animals. They just don't have the means (or money) to help. I found him. I found her! Poor girl, she's suffering from being itchy, starving, and stuck in the cycle (heat, mating, pregnancy, birthing, nursing) and repeat. Eventually, probably soon enough, it will kill her! She doesn't deserve this life. I suppose I have a new project. I'm naming her Keiko.

Today we say farewell to a absolutely wonderful woman. Barb Tipson, originally from Cornwall England, was a permanant resident of St Lucia for decades. She was owner/operator of a restaurant at Pigeon Island up until a few years ago. Both her home and restaurant were inhabited by pets. Barbara cared for the stray animals and was one of the original founding members of SLAPS (St Lucia Animal Protection Society) in 1998. She was one of our fosters. She was someone we admired, respected, and looked up to. She was one of our only foster homes. I don't remember even one occasion of her saying no to taking in a foster we needed a place for. She never complained if it was difficult. She just dealt with it. We will miss her. RIP Barbara.
She leaves behind a house full of pets. Homes have been found for a few but there are still five needing somewhere to go. All the dogs are around 13-17 lbs and over 6 years of age. Two kitties are also needing homes if possible. The normal adoption fee applies as it needs to cover prepping and shipping cost. We will be posting bios within the next week individually. We will be picky in screening as I'm sure she would want the best, most caring homes for her babies. www.brunoproject.org/application
Seems our new stray kitty has decided to stay. He comes by at least twice daily for meals and attention, and yesterday was the first time that he decided to take a nap in the car port in full view of the dogs. He stayed for the majority of the day into the evening. This guy is such a character! He randomly attacks our legs but lets me rub his tummy while he's eating. He has a little bend at the tip of his right ear that I find very interesting. He eats a lot, but it's ok cause it's really just payment for him keeping vermen and birds away. I think he feels this is home now but I'm sure he will keep going on adventures chasing tail until I can catch him and get him in for neutering. We've been calling him Kittykitty mainly because for the first few weeks we fed him, we didn't know what gender he was. We are at a loss, can anyone suggest a name for him?

🐾Wednesday's Wonder🐾
Yes, this is Phoebe again. We still haven't found her a forever home. She's currently in a Ontario 🇨🇦 foster home.
In April 2022, at the young age of about five months Phoebe’s first home discarded her like garbage in a middle class neighborhood in St Lucia. They left her alone to fend for herself. She was brought into the care of the shelter. Only a month later, she flew to Ontario. This should have been the start of a absolutely wonderful life.
Well, her new life started off as perfect as ever possible. She had a warm home, enough food, and a loving family she just adored! Everything was absolutely perfect! She was thriving!
Unfortunately in 2024, everything fell apart. The family had gone through extremely hard times. Her favourite human was definitely not herself and struggling. Poor Phoebe became anxious and on edge in the tiny apartment they had to move into. Her human reached out to our Canadian team. She wanted Phoebe to have a better life, a calmer life.
Times had changed. There certainly weren't a lot of homes to choose from this time. Poor Pheobe just couldn't settle and feel comfortable in her new home. They tried for two years, but in the end felt their home wasn't the right place for her.
Phoebe deserves a loving, patient home. Please help us find her a home. www.brunoproject.org/application

Update on Roger's Pack🐶🦴🦮🐾
The only days I can easily park in town are Sundays and Holidays. These are the days I try to visit the Castries strays. They are all doing quite well. Roger has some kind of shin issue but it doesn't seem to get too bad as long as he gets tick/flee meds regularly. Muffins' paw seems to be healing and when she runs away from me, she uses it perfectly. I believe her pay have been driven over and she spent all her free time licking it raw. Eva has forgiven me for spaying her, and comes to me for attention provided she isn't too busy eating. The nameless young one will likely never come too close to me, but since we were able to catch and spay her extreamely loudly and graphically to spay her, it doesn't really matter. At least these four should live pretty long lives as strays. Nigel obviously still feeds them on weekdays otherwise they wouldn't be so plump. I'm so happy I got to meet him.
