Gilchris Medard AKA "Maestro", is a autodidact pianist/music teacher based in Babonneau Castries Saint Lucia. His musical journey began during the pandemic in 2021, his interest peaked when he picked up an old keyboard lying around the house and learned a few songs. From then on he became fascinated and delved deep into the world of music. Drawing inspiration from great past and present musicians,
his influences range from the jazzy tones of Bill Evans and Al Haig to the classical nature of Frédéric Chopin and the gospel harmonies of Michael Bereal. His other top influences include bossa nova, R&B, gospel, and neo-soul genres. Taking a special interest in jazz and classical genres, his music comprises a mixture of both. The talented young pianist made his stage debut in 2022 at the National String Orchestra Concert, wowing the audience with a masterful solo performance. Following this performance Gilchris then went on to perform with his trio at the launch of the first annual Junior Jazz and Arts Festival, there he received the moniker "Maestro" and later on featured at the Jazz On The Square! Garnering a reputation for excellent skill and professionalism, he frequently plays at various national functions and special events. With an ever-growing love for music, he enjoys sharing his craft with others all over the island. Opening Maestro Music School in September of 2023 he now specializes in private lessons for both children and adults, exploring their passion for music. Gilchris performs regularly at the Mystique Hotel, Windjammer, Royalton, and the Entertainment Sound Productions Studio (ESP) Jazz Nights series with his trio, he was recently honored with an ESP Special Award in 2023.
