Castries East Disaster Management Committee

The Castries East Disaster Management Committee has been in existence for over twenty years, serving the Castries East Constituency before, during and after disasters. The Committee is made of approximately twenty dedicated volunteers from the Constituency who continue to serve with distinction in areas such as:

Flood mitigation exercises
Risk Assessments
Facilitators of Workshops on Best Practices related to Disaster Preparedness and Management
Capacity Building workshops for its members and that of other Committees
School Safety exercise and support

The Committee successfully completed a small grant USAID/OFDA/NEMO Community Resilience project entitled* " Community Risk Vulnerability Assessment and Slope Stabilization Project"* in 2019. The main objective was to monitor and help mitigate (lessen) vulnerabilities (weaknesses) throughout the Community. This was done through monitoring of household livelihoods, their status, the structures, infrastructures, land use to better understand ways of interventions and to provide suggestions with the intention to inform decision makers on the design and implementation of appropriate measures that can be taken to alleviate present circumstances. Through this project, the Committee proved itself to be efficient in the management and dispensation of international funds and the implementation of the project.
