HAND FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (HFM)

FACTS ABOUT HFM:
👉 Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFM) is a common contagious illness caused by the coxsackievirus.

👉Kids 1 to 4 years old are most at risk for the disease.

👉 Infections are common in childcare centers & preschools.
👉The illness typically lasts 3-5 days.

👉Outbreaks are most common during the warm summer and early fall months.

TOYS SAFETY: WHAT TO AVOID ⁉
👉Avoid toys that shoot objects into the air. They can cause serious eye injuries.

👉Avoid toys with toxic materials that could cause poisoning. Make sure the label says “nontoxic.”
👉Avoid toys with sharp edges & toys with small magnets.
👉Avoid the balloons (choking risk).
👉Avoid electric toys (risk of developing short-circuits & shocks).

⚠WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF FEEDING BABY CEREAL FROM A BOTTLE🍼⁉

👉CHOKING HAZARD: Offering cereal in a bottle before babies are developmentally ready (6 months) can increase the likelihood of gagging and/or inhaling the thickened mixture into their lungs.

👉NOT GETTING ADEQUATE MILK VOLUME FOR PROPER GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: The cereal takes away from the amount of milk in the bottle (adds carbohydrates & dilutes the nutrient density).

👉OVEREATING & OBESITY: Baby is being given a higher concentration of calories without being able to regulate her own intake.

👉ALLERGY ACTIVATION: Exposure to solid foods before the age of 4 months may put babies at risk for developing food allergies in the future.
