Introducing Kiteverse.

Short story: Kiteverse is a new writing platform that we've spent the last 7 years dreaming and willing into being. And here it finally is: www.kiteverse.app

Longer story: On this day 7 years ago, we launched the last issue of The Outpost. By that time, the magazine was doing so well, but we needed a break. We had depleted our resources after 4 years of publishing independently, and needed to figure out how the magazine could grow more organically, organize more efficiently, and run more sustainably. The following years were marked by tireless trying and testing of new models, media, and means of engagement (some of you may remember The Outpost cafe, The Outpost archive, Mapping Possibilities, Radio Mansion, the poetry card game, To Stay exhibition and concert, the kite workshops, and our endless conversations on magazines as movements). In the end, the code was cracked but the times had changed, and The Outpost, as a magazine born of the Arab Spring, felt like it had lost its sense of urgency. It was time for it to go, so it could make way for Kiteverse.

In the past year, as the world we knew was shifting on its axis, we were busy building a new website and uploading our entire printed archive to it.

In one month, on January 21, 2021, we will share all of it with all of you. All the issues, all the treats, the whole story. And we cannot wait!

For now, we send you a big wave of love from Beirut and wish you a gentle transition into the new year.

Published in collaboration with and , it provides an alternative reading of Amman, as well as a space for the city to come together in spite of its differences.

On this day seven years ago we launched The Outpost. Back then, it was very much an experiment. We wanted to produce an alternative narrative from and on the Arab world, and we wanted to see what could happen as a result. Little did we know that it would go so far. But it did; we did.

We stopped publishing the printed edition in 2016, and spent the next three years experimenting with other media forms. We built a radio, hosted live events, organized workshops, gave talks, opened a café, and helped launch a Dance Mag. Next week, we are releasing a special, seven-year anniversary print in Amman, in collaboration with Amman Design Week 2019 and المنصّة platform.

It took us seven years of experimentation to finally find our voice. In a way, this anniversary is one of our many rebirths. But this one is a special one, because it's an opening of a whole new chapter in our journey.

We will keep on writing till we reach the zenith of our freedom. This time, however, contrary to when we started in 2012, we have a voice. And we have each other.

Earlier this year, we moved our outpost to Amman and spent two months engaging with the city creatively and purposefully.
