The Board of Directors of the MIDEL – International Confederation of the Lebanese Businesspeople had the great pleasure and honor of meeting with His Excellency, the President of the Lebanese Republic, General Joseph Aoun.
The meeting featured an open, transparent, and constructive discussion on Lebanon's current challenges and future opportunities.
On this occasion, MIDEL reaffirmed its full and unwavering support for the President. We commended his courage, determination, and leadership in advancing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace and safeguarding Lebanon's national interests.
We firmly believe that diplomacy is the only sustainable path toward lasting peace, greater stability, renewed confidence, economic recovery, and the creation of the right conditions to attract investment and encourage Lebanese talent and youth to return home.
MIDEL remains fully committed to supporting the State and working alongside all productive sectors to help rebuild a prosperous, stable, and forward-looking Lebanon.

Le Conseil d'administration du Mouvement International des Entreprises Libanaises (MIDEL) s'est réuni afin d'évaluer les derniers développements économiques et sécuritaires au Liban et de définir les priorités pour soutenir la relance économique.
À cette occasion, le MIDEL a réaffirmé son soutien au Président de la République et au Gouvernement dans leurs efforts visant à restaurer une stabilité durable, condition essentielle au retour de la confiance, des investissements et de la croissance.
Le Conseil a également rappelé son opposition à toute augmentation de la pression fiscale qui risquerait de fragiliser davantage les entreprises, l'emploi et l'économie formelle, appelant plutôt à des réformes structurelles favorisant la compétitivité et l'investissement.
Enfin, le MIDEL a annoncé l'organisation, au quatrième trimestre 2026, d'une importante mission économique en Syrie afin de renforcer les partenariats entre les entreprises libanaises et syriennes et de participer aux opportunités liées à la reconstruction.
Le MIDEL demeure pleinement engagé à promouvoir une économie libanaise plus forte, plus compétitive et davantage ouverte sur son environnement régional et international.

The International Confederation of Lebanese Businesspeople (MIDEL) was pleased to host a constructive lunch debate with Mr. Enrique Blanco Armas, World Bank Country Manager for Lebanon, to discuss Lebanon’s current economic challenges and the vital role of the private sector in supporting recovery and sustainable growth. Our discussions focused on key reform priorities, private sector development, access to financing, and the contribution of international institutions in accompanying Lebanon’s path toward economic stabilization, reconstruction, and long-term prosperity.
We exchanged views on the urgent need to restore confidence, strengthen public-private cooperation, improve governance, and create an environment conducive to investment, entrepreneurship, and job creation.
Despite the unprecedented challenges facing the country, we remain confident in Lebanon’s resilience and in the ability of its people, institutions, and business community to build a more prosperous and sustainable future.
Sincere appreciation to the World Bank for their continued engagement, open dialogue, and unwavering commitment to supporting Lebanon’s recovery efforts and empowering its private sector.
Together, through reforms, partnership, and shared responsibility, Lebanon can move from crisis toward renewal.

Very productive, insightful, and candid meeting yesterday with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam alongside the Executive Board of the International Confederation of Lebanese Business People (MIDEL).
We conveyed three key messages:
✅ First, we expressed our appreciation for his leadership, wisdom, and courage during one of the most difficult periods Lebanon has faced in recent years.
✅ Second, while we highly welcome the ongoing ceasefire efforts, we stressed that a ceasefire alone is not enough. Without a clear roadmap toward lasting peace, stability, and long-term security, it risks becoming another temporary pause in a cycle we have witnessed too many times before.
✅ Third, as Lebanese entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders in Lebanon and across the world, we stand ready to invest, rebuild, create jobs, and contribute to the country's recovery. However, investment requires confidence, and confidence requires stability. Sustainable reconstruction can only be built on solid and secure foundations.
The discussion was transparent, constructive, and focused on the future. We were encouraged by the Prime Minister’s commitment to doing everything possible to steer Lebanon toward greater stability and renewed confidence.
Lebanon has extraordinary human capital, entrepreneurial talent, and opportunities. What is needed now is a durable environment of peace, trust, and predictability that can unlock its full potential.

A very enjoyable, interesting, and insightful lunch debate was held with the Board of the International Confederation of Lebanese Businesspeople (MIDEL), featuring our Board of Trustees member, Mr. Yves Choueifaty, Chairman and founder of TOBAM, a Paris-based asset management firm known for its research-driven and anti-benchmark investment approach.
The discussion focused on: “The Next Step for Bitcoin: The Return of Reserve Institutions.” It explored how Bitcoin may enable the re-emergence of reserve institutions in a digital context, while examining its implications for balance sheets, financial intermediation, risk premia, and the evolving boundary between money and financial assets.

🚨 Urgent Statement: Lebanon’s Economy at Risk

The Board of the International Confederation of Lebanese Businesspeople warns that the ongoing war is hitting Lebanon hard:

• Inflation is soaring, eroding purchasing power.
• Businesses and supply chains are under severe strain.
• A liquidity crisis threatens both private and public sectors.
• Post-war social unrest is a real concern without clear reconstruction plans.

The Board urges the Government and Parliament to act now—push forward reforms, adopt critical laws, and preserve what’s left of Lebanon’s economic momentum.
