LUPD participated in Lebanon's Universal Acceptance Day 2026, where President Sylvana Lakkis emphasized the ongoing barriers that persons with disabilities encounter in accessing information, education, employment opportunities, digital services, and humanitarian assistance.

As Lebanon continues its digital transformation, accessibility and inclusion must be central to every policy, platform, and service. A genuinely inclusive digital future can only be achieved when persons with disabilities play a meaningful role in shaping it.

Digital exclusion is a form of social exclusion, and equal access to the digital world is essential to equality, dignity, and participation for all.

نظّم تحالف جمعيات الأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة في لبنان تحركاً مطلبياً، أمام مبنى سوق الخضار الجديد، في محلة طريق الجديدة في بيروت، ظهر الإثنين الواقع فيه 11 أيار 2026، رفضاً لاستمرار تهميش النازحين المعوقين ووضعهم خارج أولويات الاستجابة خلال الأزمات، للتأكيد على مطلب التحالف بضرورة تأمين مركز نزوح دامج على الأقل في كل قضاء.

أثناء التحرك، طالب التحالف بتخصيص مبنى سوق الخضار والفاكهة المهجور في أرض جلول ليكون مركزاً نموذجياً لاستقبال النازحين المعوقين وكبار السن وعائلاتهم، إلى جانب تأمين مركز إيواء دامج في كل قضاء يستجيب لتنوع الاحتياجات ويضمن الحماية والكرامة للجميع.

وأكد المشاركون أن النزوح الدامج ليس امتيازاً أو خياراً، بل هو وضع طارئ يفرض حقاً أساسياً، يجب أن تلتزم به جميع خطط الاستجابة والإيواء.

The Coalition of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities in Lebanon held an advocacy protest on Monday, May 11, 2026, in front of the new vegetable market building in Tariq El Jdideh, Beirut. The protest aimed to address the ongoing marginalization of displaced persons with disabilities and their exclusion from emergency response priorities. The coalition reiterated its demand for the establishment of at least one inclusive displacement center in every district.

During the protest, the coalition urged that the abandoned vegetable and fruit market building in Ard Jalloul be designated as a model center for hosting displaced persons with disabilities, the elderly, and their families. They also called for the establishment of inclusive shelters in every district that meet diverse needs and ensure protection and dignity for all.

Participants emphasized that inclusive displacement is not a privilege or an option; it is an urgent condition that represents a fundamental right and must be included in all response and shelter plans.

📣 Call for Participation: Our Right to Safe and Dignified Displacement!

The Alliance of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities in Lebanon is organizing a protest and sit-in to emphasize the right to “inclusive displacement."

Location: Near the Vegetable and Fruit Market, Ard Jalloul – Qasqas.
Date: Monday, May 11th
Time: 12:00 PM.

Main Demands:
Assign the abandoned Vegetable and Fruit Market building in Ard Jalloul to serve as a model reception centre for persons with disabilities and the elderly

Ensure each district has an inclusive shelter centre that meets diverse needs and respects everyone's dignity.

The invitation is open to media professionals, activists, and allied organizations.

The Lebanese Union for People with Physical Disabilities took part in a solidarity vigil organized by the Khiam Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture, honoring the late journalist Amal Khalil. The gathering was held in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters in Beirut on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

During the event, friends and colleagues of the late journalist spoke. Tributes were also paid to her memory by writers, media professionals, and former prisoners.

منذ بدء موجات النزوح، تواصل منظمات الأشخاص المعوقين مطالبة رئاسة مجلس الوزراء، ووحدة إدارة الكوارث، ووزارة الشؤون الاجتماعية، بتحمّل مسؤولياتهم والعمل على إنشاء وتجهيز مركز إيواء دامج واحد على الأقل في كل قضاء، يكون مجهزًا لاستقبال النازحين المعوقين وكبار السن بشكل يحفظ كرامتهم الإنسانية ويضمن حقّهم في الحماية وقت الأزمات.

Since the onset of displacement waves, organizations of persons with disabilities have continued to call on the Council of Ministers, the Disaster Management Unit, and the Ministry of Social Affairs to assume their responsibilities and work toward establishing and equipping at least one inclusive shelter in every district, designed to accommodate displaced persons with disabilities and older people in a way that preserves their dignity and guarantees their right to protection during crises.
