👩‍🌾🌾Bam, an active nutrition facilitator in Sekong Province, is a true role model in her community. At the Agriculture For Nutrition Project Phase II - AFN II Farmer Nutrition School, supported by WFP, she learned about nutrition, healthy diets and better farming practices.

She has put this knowledge into action by growing vegetables🥬 raising livestock🐓, and improving her family's income and nutrition. In an area where coffee farming is dominant, Bam encourages other families to diversify their livelihoods and food sources. Her success is inspiring other to make positive changes, helping build healthier and more resilient communities.🥗👏

🇩🇪 Today, we had the honor of welcoming a delegation of German parliamentarians and the the German Ambassador to Lao PDR, so we could share with them firsthand the impact of Germany’s support to school meals in Lao PDR.

🥗 Under this support, more than 23,000 children, in the three most food-insecure southern provinces, are receiving a nutritious meal daily, helping them focus in class and build a better future through education.

🌱 Through the project's farm-to-school approach, local farmers, especially women, are gaining opportunities to earn income by supplying fresh produce to schools. This not only strengthens their livelihoods but also helps them remain in the communities and contributes to local economic development.

Germany's contribution to Laos builds a national cross-sectoral system between agriculture and education, which helps stabilise rural incomes and acts as a safety net during economic hardship.

⛈️Every year during the rainy season, many vulnerable families in Xon district of Houaphan province face uncertainty in accessing enough food. This year, the situation is even more challenging, as the ongoing global fuel crisis has driven up the cost of food and basic necessities.

Just before the start of the rainy season, more than 460 women in 11 villages of Xon district, including Parn, received a cash grant through a project supported by the Government of Ireland, to strengthen their resilience to challenges such as climate and economic shocks, and build more secure livelihoods. Parn plans to use the money to buy fencing and raise more small animals.

Thanks to the Irish Embassy in Vietnam and Irish Aid for supporting the communities to better withstand shocks and secure a more stable source of food and income.

A grant from Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) has helped Souksavanh, who lives in Sekong province, change her perspective on her future.

Once forced to leave home for Thailand in search of better income opportunities, Souksavanh completed training provided by WFP in her village. She is now raising layer chickens and growing vegetables to supply to schools and markets.

Today, Souksavanh earns enough to support her family and can stay close to care for her elderly parents.

Food brings people together, and understanding the nutritional value of food production makes cooking more purposeful. It is no longer only about filling stomachs, but about ensuring healthy, balanced, and nutritious meals 🥗benefitting those who need them most, such as pregnant women 🤰and young children.👶

It was inspiring to see many men participating in the cooking demonstration master training sessions under Agriculture For Nutrition Project Phase II - AFN II in Oudomxay province. They actively shared their knowledge of local ingredients while embracing new ideas on nutrition and food preparation - more importantly, taking on shared roles to ensure healthier meals for their families and communities.💙
